The thing about memes is they're supposed to be funny and make some kind of point. This is just using a mascot to attack others. And promote ANTIFA terrorism. Sure it's not as wordy as most lefty memes, but I'm still not sure it qualifies.

There's a mod on ResetEra who started using this mascot as an avatar.

I now can see why Pepe is so appealing.

Pepe's the relatable catharsis that the poster emits. The witty catharsis that doesn't take itself seriously. Gritty doesn't have that. Gritty only exists to bring a political message and say it's "witty and funny" when it only pales to imitation.
Pepe is also a unique character design wise. You're gonna expect a funny out of a weird green frog with big lips even if the Pepe meme posted doesn't make sense. As for Gritty, he looks like an obnoxious (like it's message) and downright creepy looking rejected Muppet.
