Maangchi, some Korean woman who is making nice money teaching people about Korean cooking and her culture. Her kids, who are adults, were worried (I seem to remember a light intervention?) she was playing too much City of Heroes and lovingly encouraged her to explore her passion and talent for cooking and teaching it via YouTube videos instead and she leveraged it into a new career, even partnering up with the South Korean ministry responsible for food and agriculture. In a way, they helped her turn her fun but unproductive Internet presence into a way of living comfortably whilst doing something she loves.
I think she's adorable and I use her recipes as a starting point a lot when I cook Korean food. I think I have a soft spot for her in part because her CoH addiction reminds me of a lot of lolcows and it's not often enough that we get to see someone who is able to feed the good wolf, (even something so innocuous for a middle-aged woman with grown kids) let alone transform it into something that procures enjoyment and knowledge to others as well as secure their financial well-being. I also love, because so many cows are cut off from their own families, that she has a close relationship with her children and that they know her well enough to pinpoint exactly where her strengths lie and to determine that it was exceptional enough for her to find success. Pretty heartwarming for me!
