I hope the defense finds a good opportunity to visually compare a .223 and a .40 and explain which one is more damaging to an unprotected human body. They probably won't but it's still infuriating.

Granted, some cheap ass steel-cased .223 is going to do far more damage than the most fancy pants .40 S&W hollow point. Pistols are pistols, rifles are rifles etc etc. But to people who aren't versed in guns will see that a .40 is almost twice is wide as a .223 and viscerally react.
