I guess it’s a consequence of being separated by water and physics for a good few centuries, but the European psyche has sort of been conditioned to expect grand jolly cooperation with no backsies because of WW2. We definitely didn’t help by pumping millions to billions into their infrastructures to rebuild - my point being, the modern Euro doesn’t have a concept of national security as it’s been routinely provided for them militarily and facetiously denied to them societally.
