Do you remember the KFC buffet? I'm disappointed that nowhere in my area continues this tradition. The buffet offered sides that you can't otherwise get from the menu. Items such as: tater wedges, green beans and other vegetable sides, white gravy for biscuits, and dessert items like chocolate mousse and my favorite bread pudding. 😋

I don't remember that one unfortunately, it may just not have existed where I grew up. I do miss the Pizza Hut buffet though...that and those personal pizzas you'd get with the Book-It coupons.

I only knew of one KFC that did the buffet but I've never had it, personally. I'm not a fan of their chicken. I'm a Popeyes man. You can't go wrong with Popeyes.

Whenever I want to get something to eat but I'm not exactly sure what I want, I'll go to Popeyes and it never disappoints.

Talking about rare fast food trends, remember the Wendy's salad bar? It's from back in the day but it was pretty cool. Another sort of rare fast food trend that's really awesome and still exists to this day at certain locations is the Popeyes breakfast. Not all locations offer it but the ones that do, rule.

I do miss the Pizza Hut buffet though
Pizza Hutt buffet ruled! I have nostalgia for it because my grandpa used to bring me there as a kid during the summer. He loved the Hawaiian pizzas with ham and pineapple on it.

Última edición:
I haven't seen a KFC buffet in probably 25 years.

They were always out of the extra crispy chicken.

You want a good buffet? The Wendy's buffet. It was so bizarre. It was all off-menu stuff you would never expect at a Wendy's. Spaghetti and make-your-own tacos and stuff.

I think the last time I went to a KFC buffet was about the last time I went to a Ponderosa. I was a broke student then and although eating at a buffet was economical, I never made a habit of any chain buffet and here's why:

1) I could get a comparable price, if not cheaper, from a buffet at any one of the local Chinese restaurants. Instead of just greasy chicken (I understand that Original Recipe is a favorite of surgery patients, who show up after they're discharged -- bandages and all) you can get less-greasy chicken and vegetables, as well as beef and seafood. And, more importantly:

2) Your local Chinese buffet most likely has a liquor license, so you can wash it down with a Tsing-Tao. Or five -- they don't judge.

It was weird to see so many places in the late '90s offer a buffet . . . I guess they thought that their only competition would be other nationwide fast-food or fast-casual chains, and didn't realize that the local restaurants were the ones they really had to worry about . . .

I remember a KFC buffet at one in town although I haven't been back in years to see if it was still there. Friends would want to go there for the buffet but I was a fan of the colonel's tenders so I never did anything beyond look at the buffet.

Now that I think about it with the mention of the Wendy's buffet I'm also recalling Pizza Hutt having a small one. Those I can distinctly remember within the last decade although none are present anymore.

KFC buffet was fucking nasty. I'm an actual pigman and I had reservations about eating there.

I remember the Wendy's near us had one of those. Never went, I always liked the spicy chicken sandwiches and their chili, but it was weird seeing all those pasta and salad dishes out.

Our go-to was this Chinese place called Phoenix Buffet. First place I ever had t hose dried cayenne peppers in General Tso's, loved it. Sadly it's been torn down and is now a Hampton Inn.

I worked at KFC in high school (this was like 25 years ago at this point) and I loved it. I would eat most of my meals off of the buffet. I'm not sure exactly when they discontinued it, but it's a shame.

Strictly speaking it's not discontinued. I've since learned there's a KFC with a buffet on the other side of the city where I live. They're just very, very rare.

LOL the only vegetables I've ever seen in a Chinese buffet are broccoli slathered in grease, those weird long green beans, potatoes, and whatever junk is buried in the rice. It's 99% different varieties of chicken and seafood. I do like seafood, I eat at my buffet more and more regularly because compared to a sit-down restaurant or home it is very cheap for eating large amounts of fried crab (mix into the rice for cheap crab rice) and mussels in their black bean sauce.

KFC has, bar none, the widest variety of vegetables you will ever see in a place like that.

I have personally never seen a KFC buffet. I remember reading about it back in a blog from like 2010, and even then it was in retrospect.

There is a chain in Houston called "Hartz Chicken Buffet" but their own website says "not all restaurants have a buffet"...

One thing that I've read about but haven't seen in a long time at buffets (both Wendy's and I think another pizza place had it) was some goo made with mashed up bananas, strawberries, and sugar. Guilty pleasure, but not the best dessert--I haven't thought about it in years.

Still have nightmares over the place. My dad dragged us to the KFC once every couple weeks when I was kid.

We have a Buffet KFC here in town, but they shut down the buffet side because of the pandemic and never reopened it. Sad because when they are actively stocking it, it was pretty damn good.
