Not quite keto but I've been doing omad for the last several weeks and my go-to meal is half a cup of rice (320kcal), 4-600g of chicken breast (650-950kcal), just depends on the size of the breasts, then I fill out the rest of my daily calories with avocado oil, I count the oil at 10kcal/g which is a bit above its actual value, with my calorie target being 1700-1800kcal/day

I cook the chicken in bulk sous-vide, 165 for four hours, then I steam it to warm it back while I cook the rice (instant pot, low pressure, 4min pressure, 10 min release). It's tempting to use the chicken juice to cook the rice but it's not the same as broth and doesn't have nearly enough water. You can add a bit of the juice to the rice but use the recommended amount of water and add the juice on top of that

From there, I shred the chicken, mix it back in with the rice, drizzle the requisite amount of oil, then scarf it down. The oil helps it all go down nice and smoothly. You could also use olive oil but I just prefer the avocado. It's kinda bland, but that works for me, if food tastes too good I tend to overeat

For keto you could swap the rice for broccoli and/or go with riced cauliflower, that'll get you some fiber and volume. You can have some carbs while you're on keto if you're working out enough but it's usually easiest to just avoid them. I'm not intentionally keto but I am in ketosis part of the time (I know someone who can smell it and they let me know when they notice)

For the last several months I've been struggling with brain fog and I think my problem was that I wasn't getting enough fat, I was probably 60-70% protein, 30-40% carbs, with my only fat being the tiny bit that's in chicken breast (and a lot of it cooks out during the sous vide process and I don't save it) with maybe one fatty meal a week, usually pizza. Being roughly 50-30-20 protein-fat-carbs has been great as far as clarity/focus goes, I feel awesome. Depending on you you might need to add a bit of fiber to keep things moving but this works for me

omad might suck at first but one of the benefits of keto is that it reduces your appetite so once you hit ketosis it's just the easiest meal plan there is. As I mentioned getting enough fat is really important, your body needs it to make hormones, including testosterone, not to mention all the other important goodies, so don't skimp on it

I already spammed here if you're interested, but here's some more:

Salsa and sour cream are your friends.
Keto branded foods are sometimes not very keto. Generally better to make it yourself or find a substitute.
Experiment with different cooking methods and pay close attention to how you react to different food.
Canned fatty fish are a convenient snack.
You might find you feel better on low carb, zero carb, or carnivore rather than keto. Try them all for several months and see what's easiest to stick with vs what makes you feel the healthiest.

Word. It's an incredibly restrictive diet (though so is zero carb and carnivore) and it can also get real pricey, especially in the present day. It does work well though, if you want to lose weight fast.

I went to a dietician they didn't recommend a full keto diet specifically for me. But drastically cutting the carb component and increasing nuts and protein. Finding a good low carb bread that doesn't taste like shit is also a good option.

And un ironically counting your calories and portioning helped me maintain a steady weight loss.

Whatever works for you works, if you can do keto then do it. I couldn't maintain it, was too hard. The suppressed appetite was nice and all but I craved carbs too much.

Maximum protein + some fats + minimal carbs + zero sugar has been the best mix for me as well - for both losing as well as maintaining. I feel best when I'm eating like this.

Carbs aren't the enemy, potatoes and beans are excellent. Sugar is the devil, all it does is make you hungry for more sugar.

Ultimately every diet is some sort of modified CICO thing, you can't escape it.

and it can also get real pricey
I've managed to keep my total food cost pretty low depending on how much non-meat I eat. I only eat 73/27 ground beef, buy it in bulk when it's on sale, and freeze it in 1 lb portions. That's 80% of my meals for $2.00-$2.50 a lb. Eggs, dairy, fruits and vegetables account for the rest. Whole milk, kefir, cheese, and sour cream are the most expensive additions. Egg prices have been shitting the bed for two years so I haven't been eating them as often, but buying in bulk saves a lot of money if you're able to eat 6-10 eggs every day. Mangos, berries, and melons are my go to fruits, and I main brussel sprouts and broccoli for vegetables. I have to go to 6 different grocery stores to get all the lowest prices, but it's worth the trouble. I'm not paying $7 per lb for beef that's not even grass fed.
Low-fat cottage cheese is somehow even worse than the regular stuff.
That's something that drives me crazy. So many foods are low fat and full of added salt. Everything is made with skim milk and tastes like shit.

I'm sick of being fat
You're doing this for weight loss, but I encourage you to look at it as an elimination diet first. I didn't realize all the food sensitivities I had until I started carnivore and added vegetables back. I can eat bell peppers, but only if I cook the hell out of them. So many health problems vanished in just a few days, especially joint pain.

You can usually find it next to the kosher bacon

Bacon is my treat food i'm counting down the weekend till i can have eggs with a slice of bacon. But i did find a nice english muffin with low carbs and high protein that doesn't taste like shit and of course its hard to buy because everyone else wants it too.

I'm sick of being fat,
adopting fad diets is a great way to drop pounds fast but terrible for keeping it off. you will hit your goal weight and then in a few months end up worse off than when you started. you have to view this as a permanent, life changing decision to alter your habits forever or it isnt going to stick.

My keto tips are this:

Rub it into your scalp gently, but firmly. Don't scrape your scalp with your nails. Leave it soaking into your scalp for approx. 5 minutes - you can use these 5 minutes to wash every other part of your body. Take your butthole on holiday. After that, rinse it out, and when you towel off, gently pat your head down - don't towel off roughly. This lets the medication remain active. Use only 2-3 times a week. The 2% ketoconazole concentration stuff works best; OTC nizoral is "fine" if you can't get the prescription. Be careful with nizoral, if you leave it in for 5 minutes you will flake something bad.

Hell yeah theres a keto thread. I recently discovered its easier for me to do it than I had thought it would be. I was maybe 250-260lbs and so far so good looking forward to the results. I basically have no way to cook my own food, so I have mostly been eating grilled or dried meats, some of the new chips companies are making, I do try to squeeze in some cheese(not big on cheese), electrolytes, salads, and eggs. Prior to this I was glued to as much soda as I can drink and honestly eating pretty shittily. Is anyone in the thread still doing the diet? Got nice results? I will either edit post or make new comments as I go depending how dead this thread stays I don't want to necro over and over.

In regards to the post about the importance of fat, popcorn is a great way the serving size is bigger than some options, but it does have some carbs, so just be careful.

Also the more advanced information out there like resistant starches for instance make keto even easier as you can still have sushi wrapped in rice if you were already eating that, or if you can't let potatos go you can have them in moderation if prepared a certain way.
