Thread-is-bumped-anyway update from Gina's socials: no further mentions of Kelly. Gina herself has an upcoming hip replacement surgery and is nervous. She hasn't been traveling much, possibly because of the hip issues. She's started doing pet portraiture herself and is extremely good at it. Her cats continue to be adorable.
She's mostly active in her Instagram stories vs in grid posts-- she seems to reserve the grid space for actual travel content.

No one can convince me that this is Munchhausen by proxy.
This is an extreme form of self harm. She would probably gnaw her arms off if she had any teeth left and wasn't looked after.
It's very easy to diagnose self harmers over the internet with MBP.
"Oh he/she is harming themselves and filming it? Must be MBP, no other reason."
It would be very interesting to know what exactly is wrong with her brain & mind. But sadly we won't ever find out.

Well no, it's not Munchausen by proxy. MBP is Munchausens imposed on others, usually a child or someone under guardianship.No one can convince me that this is Munchhausen by proxy.

Kelly is definitely an odd one though. I think what makes it more Munchausens than 'just' self harm is her insistence of it being Behçet's Disease, and before that, a 'mysterious' illness that caused massive amounts of blood loss requiring constant transfusions. She even had a typical Munchie Instagram handle, I think it was chronically.kelly or something.
For what it's worth, the medical app posted here had an actual doctor performing on her note past self injury and malingering, but stated nothing about Munchausen.

I know someone who is prone to self harm like this. She has pulled her own teeth out, and used the medical system to have organs removed. She is, luckily, not a social media addict (too old for one thing…) I don’t think the person o know is a munchie, I think she has a desire to self obliterate but needs others to do it for her.
It is something more complex than MBP, or perhaps it’s the very extreme end of MBP, I don’t know. There doesn’t seem to be much work on examining what’s behind it. Depressing field of study. Kelly horrifies me because I look at the person I know and see them reflected there

This is my armchair diagnosis: Dermatillomania, or skin picking. It’s a mental illness with very similar roots as OCD. In Kelly’s case I suspect there’s a lot of the munchie mindset as well, because she’s not embarrassed by her actions. And there’s no limit on how many illnesses a person can have at once, so there may be other conditions driving her too.
I don’t remember if she tried therapy and meds to stop this, but the thing about those two interventions are you have to want them to work for them to be effective. She doesn’t.
I think she’s sad (as in pitiable) and the health care workers who deal with her probably don’t enjoy her as a patient.
