Kanye makes me happy because I've never liked his music at all, but his pro-Trump shitposting and sudden Christianity making everyone go "what the fuck" has been one of the funniest things I've ever seen. I hope he becomes the fucking president for the exact same reasons I wanted Trump to win.

IMO, its mostly his bipolar that makes him insane now of days. No doubt he is still reeling from losing his Ma, but that was a decade plus ago.

Everything post MBDTF has been a slow decline. Most artists have a 5 to 10 year window where they're at their creative peak. After that, its just noise or trying to recapture it. Very few people are able to re-light the spark. Dylan is really the only guy who comes to mind, with his string of albums from the late 90s to the early 00s. They're really good, just not as good as his 60s output.

The last Ye album I really dug into was Life of Pablo. Never got into Kids See Ghosts or Ye. Heard Jesus is King once and it was pretty generic stuff.

I'm not outright dismissing everything after MBDTF as shit. On the contrary. I think everything from MBDTF to Pablo is great, for the most part. Yeezus is pretty forward thinking and the Daft Punk produced shit is great. Pablo is basically a toned down Yeezus. A lot of what makes those albums work is Kayne getting personal in his lyrics. The sex shit is whatever, but stuff like "Real Friends", "30 Hours", "Guilt Trip", and "Hold My Liquor" is the real shit. Watch the Throne is the worst album of the bunch, but still really good. The beats are great, Niggas in Paris is a fucking classic, and Ye and Jay have great chemistry. Kind of sucks their personal relationship deteriorated.

Each album was slightly worse than the last. The largest jump was probably Pablo to Ye. And then another major jump from Ye to Jesus is King. There was supposed to be
TurboGrafx-16 inbetween Ye and Jesus, but Kanye scrapped it. And Pablo had an earlier version made during the Yeezus tour that was also scrapped. My main bitch with Pablo is that I thought the earlier mixes were better and Ye should have just buckled the fuck down and finished the damn record before releasing it. Thank god no one though releasing albums like software was a good idea.

Jay-Z and Kanye are separated by 7 years, but man what a big difference that 7 years makes. Shawn Carter was ready to start coasting long ago, hence he makes "Magna-Carta Holy Grail" the definitive dadrock album. I mean how else can you see that insipid mess when the biggest track pays tribute to "Smells Like Teen Spirit" a grunge song that's older than the average listener of your music?

Kanye desperately strives to be on the cutting edge, even if that turns off his audience. Even if that means he's not on the "cutting edge" as he made a freaking Gospel Hip Hop album with "Jesus is King." Is it autism? Is it narcissism? Is it just secret genius? I have no clue part me thinks it's all of that. What I'm left thinking is that after Elvis and The Beatles, there's Kanye. And he's not going to be President in 2020 but like Trump I could see him do it in 20 even 30 years from now. Because just like Trump love him or hate him you just want to know what the son of a bitch does next.

I think Kayne is closer to Prince than Elvis or the Beatles. They both have a large catalog of titles. Prince more for his own records while Ye has more productions on other people's albums and guest appearances. Both Black. Both had a large creative period. Both had huge egos. Both eventually went religious. I don't think Prince ever had political aspirations and was notably non political in his later years. That was due to his JW beliefs more than anything. Prince was definitely the more sane of the two.

Kanye has compared himself to MJ more than anything. He did work with him on the Thriller 2008 reissue. I never particular though MJ was a true artist like Prince. MJ seemed content with staying in the Album Tour cycle.
 
Honestly I could see if you don't like listening to albums you might not like Kanye as much as people who do, but he still has a lot of bangin' songs regardless.
 
I think he is a solid 8/10 in an industry that is full of fucking shit that would struggle to push a 4/10 at best. He is one of the best by virtue of the talent pool being mostly mumbling fuckwads, basic cunts with a piano and an ability to sing in something other than 4/4.

Its more the sorry state of modern popular music than him being anything special. He is very talented, and he has a great knack for reading the room, but he gets overrated because a lot of people only listen to music the television or netflix tells them is OK to listen to, so they have a starving need for something above the low quality shite they are used to.

See, I don't know much about Kanye's mental health history before his mother passed away. I'm under the impression that all of his odd shit comes from her passing away. I really don't listen to much of his music so my opinions of it don't hold much weight. I just get confused when people wonder why he is the way he is.
