I still haven't considered watching the TV show. Not sure I will, methinks.

Anyways,

I watched Abigail to see a ballerina, and it turned out to be about vampires. Then I watched a movie literally called "Ballerina", and it turned out to be a John Wick thing. Do they just not make movies about ballerinas or something? Obviously filmgoers are interested in ballet, so why the constant bait-and-switch?

You should watch Suspiria. It's about ballerinas. :)

I mean, it's not not about ballerinas.

Anyway, anybody seen this yet and have an opinion? I prefer to get my movie reviews from an anonymous forum set up to laugh at people than professional film critics. It's more trustworthy.

Última edición:
Watched the film (in flight). It's surprisingly good. It manages to avoid a lot of pitfalls in female action films. There is very little ridiculous acrobatics and Eve always ends up picking a weapon to have any chance in close quarters combat (it still exists but not to a noticeable level). Eve isn't a girlboss and gets beaten up a lot, which I can't really criticise since John Wick also gets hurt to an unbelievable degree. The fights are pretty fun with a lot of locales and occasionally dip into silliness, which is nice.

John appears in it and is actually treated well, not TLJ bullshit "make the previous star appears weak to hype the heroine".

Probably would have been worth seeing it at home. The only thing I will criticize is having african Americans people in the Russian mafia, but overall the amount of minorities isn't distracting the rest of the film. The plot could have been more meaningful but it's a vehicle for the action scenes.

Exactly my problem. Just watched it and she doesn't do jack shit as a ballerina aside from spinning around for a couple of minutes at the beginning to show how committed and awesome she is, then nothing. She's not even particularly flexible and doesn't do anything but be a girl John Wick (getting into fake CG gunfights while flipping people around).

A low budget Christian Slater movie from 2013 has better Ballerina action:

Around 2:00.
