US Joe Biden says coal miners should 'learn to program' - I'm now fully convinced that Slow Joe should become the Democrat nominee

Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden's suggestion that coal miners should "learn to program" as the United States transitions away from fossil fuels shows "disdain" for the profession, a representative of West Virginia miners said Wednesday on "Fox & Friends."

Chris Hamilton, co-chair of the West Virginia Coal Forum, hit back at the former vice president for essentially saying coal miners should learn to code or focus on preparing for a revamped green economy.

“Anybody who can go down 300-3,000 feet in a mine sure as hell can learn how to program as well,” said Biden at a campaign event Monday in New Hampshire. “But we don’t think of it that way. Anybody who can throw coal into furnace can learn how to program for God’s sake.”

Hamilton said the attitude from Biden and others on the left regarding coal is "inconceivable" but nothing new, given the Obama administration's moves against the industry.

"It's just inconceivable how someone, particularly in his position could advocate putting tens of thousands of working Americans out of work. But it comes as no surprise. Former Vice President Biden has repeatedly demonstrated his disdain for mining and for our coal miners," he responded.

The remark came after Biden said at last month's Democratic presidential primary debate that he’d sacrifice economic growth due to a boom in oil and natural gas production and potentially risk displacing hundreds of thousands of blue-collar workers in order to combat climate change.

Biden – the front-runner in national polling in the Democratic nomination race – emphasized that “the opportunity for those workers to transition to high-paying jobs ... is real.”

“We shouldn’t build another new highway in America that doesn’t have charging stations on it. We have an opportunity to put 550,000 charging stations so that we own the electrical vehicle market, creating millions of jobs for people installing them, as well making sure that we own electric vehicle market,” Biden explained.

But he insisted that “we have to make sure we explain it to those people who are displaced that their skills are going to be needed for the new opportunities."

Hamilton said Biden has been consistent in the issue since his 2020 campaign launched and will not help him win back any support in West Virginia, where Hillary Clinton was defeated by President Trump in 2016 by more than 40 points.

"Listen, these coal miners absolutely love what they do and they recognize the importance and value. It's a very honorable profession. Our miners are very highly skilled at what they do. They do it with great pride and sophistication and they're technologically advanced so, Vice President Biden is correct in that regard," said Hamilton.

*insert obligatory 'LEARN TO CODE' meme here*

He's not exactly wrong, but I think a better strategy would be to try, and help coal miners find another line of blue-collar work, or to help them keep the jobs they already have.

I thought this was some old article being reposted, then I saw the date. It's like they never learned from when this became a literal meme to throw at them whenever they got fired.

There seems to be utter disdain for blue collar workers by the dems lately even though it’s part of its historical base. The only blue collar workers that vote for them now are minorities and only because their issues outweigh their jobs.

Are you serious?

I thought Biden was trying to become president beat Trump-- how does this endear middle America to him? Isn't this the exact same tripe that allowed Republicans to get a supermajority in 2016? How tone-deaf do you have to be to say this again?

The thing that annoys me with the learn to code (the idea, not the meme) is that learning to code well is hard. Every shit in the street can copy-paste stack overflow and get a code, but the demand is for something that is actually good and that requires a lot of time to study.
Not to mention that the geographic location of the work is different and the amount of people required is also far more limited. But of course saying "learn how to be a service provider" seems far less glamorous, espeically for people like Biden or journalists who live in a protective bubble and barely communicate with the outside world.

Biden, you fool! Didn't you see what happened to all those journalists who said the very same thing?!
Biden is surrounded by those journalists and well insulated from the life of common plebians and peasants like you. He should only be concerned with touching little girls, making sure his family is rich and give up his spot for a upper class equivalent colored who will pretend to act like a common colored when he becomes president in the VR machine.

Edit:

There seems to be utter disdain for blue collar workers by the dems lately even though it’s part of its historical base. The only blue collar workers that vote for them now are minorities and only because their issues outweigh their jobs.

For a minority like me, I believe we get the leaders we deserve and for all these minorities voting for leaders that will only pander to us because they promise to keep evil whitey away are full of doodoo and will never improve their lives. I wonder how many somalis think now voting in Ilhan Omar was a good idea lol as she is the full antithesis of what somali women act like in their culture.

This old fool. It seems any potential Dem candidate just cannot figure out how to avoid saying something utterly stupid at the drop of a hat. They never learn.

Isn't this the same guy that mentioned "turning on the record player" during a Democratic debate? :story:

Hey Joe, if it's so easy, YOU learn to code. Show us whippersnappers how it's done!

So is "learn to code" is no longer considered hate speech or still only against those poor oppressed journos?:drink:
Im still kind of in shock at how media and tech immidiately bought in to that narrative the moment people started using this taunt against them, and were screeching about it being alt-right harassment and bigotry before the fucking weekend it started was over

I mean jesus fucking christ even ultra fundie kebabs have thicker skins than that
