Joaquin Phoenix as the Joker - Won an Oscar

I watched it today; fantastic film with a protagonist who is gradually shaped into a monster by every punch that's thrown at him. I never really liked the "Joker is bad because he's crazy/got dumped into a vat of toxic goo" angle; a backstory of a mentally ill man who is tricked, lied to, ignored, ridiculed and beaten to the point where he snaps is much more interesting to me.

I'm not very familiar with Joaquin at all but his portrayal was amazing and I hope he earns a wheelbarrow of awards for it.

I really loved the score, too; scenes that seemed mundane suddenly became tense as the eerie music started playing and indicating that Arthur was about to lose his shit. Scenes could go from moving to chilling in an instant, such was the nature of Arthur's instability.

The violence left quite an impression as well. Gunshots and beatings don't usually affect me during films but there was something particularly horrific about watching

Arthur put multiple rounds into the guy trying to crawl away from him, repeatedly stab his ex-colleague before slamming his head into a doorframe and then spray the brains of his former idol against a wall on live television.

Finally got a chance to see this today. My favorite part was when he said society.

There was a fat kid next to me loudly eating popcorn and I wanted to go Joker on him.

I fucking hate super hero movies and avoid them like the plague. I went to see Joker purely because of the media hype and because I saw Tim Burton's Batman as a kid in 1989 (which I really did like back then)... and now I wanna go back and watch Joker again. Fuck the haters, this is a good movie. People say it channels Taxi Driver, Fight Club, etc but personally it reminded me of theWatchmen graphic novel adaptation. Until I saw Joker, Watchmen was the only contemporary super hero movie I honestly liked. I watched a video today that gave an overview of Phoenix's life and I had no idea he had been in rehab. I suspect he drew from his own experiences being hospitalized for this movie. I know he's just playing a character, but it felt very personal, like Phoenix was pouring a lot of personal shit into Arthur.

To be fair, Leto is a great actor so it's hard to say what happened with that performance. My guess is that the director just wasn't good at restraining Leto or just sucked in general. Having seen Bright I can assume it's the later.

During the press tours for SS he was saying some shit that made Warner Bros. unhappy. He was complaining that his contract forbade him from rock climbing (poor baby). I doubt he's coming back for the James Gunn Suicide Squad picture.

Joaquin has ruined Heath's performance for me. l just rewatched TDK and he seems so campy and Reddit in comparison. It's not helped by the fact that the film as a whole is very tame and PG-13.

The way to see it is that Ledger is the better villain, Phoenix is the better protagonist. I almost find kind of unfair compare them since Phoenix had the entire movie just for him while Ledger didnt have any post-production scenes given his tragic passing.

Ledger's performance was great but imagine Joaquin Phoenix in that same role and he would be absolutely terrifying. Joaquin Phoenix is a more nuanced and subtle actor who can draw you inside Arthur's descent into madness. Now imagine him playing a Joker who not only has gone over the edge but fully embraced his insanity without restraint.

I saw a video that mention some deleted scenes, including an imaginary cat. Seems Joker was toned down for release and maybe we'll have a Director's Cut which would be even more disturbing (which is good, fillms like this should be).

I thought Heath Ledger was kind of overrated to be honest, a fully fledged Joker played by Phoenix based on his performance as Arthur would be phenomenal and actually worthy of an Oscar in my opinion.

I love both and for different reasons. Ledger really seemed to understand the chaos behind the Joker's mentality, that he can pull all the strings and fuck with enough people to drive everyone batshit insane. Joaquin's performance is more of a baby-Joker--kind of a budding psycho that is just starting to learn how the whole supervillain icon thing works.

Ledger's Joker is more of a full-fledged Joker with the bravado, authority, and nihilism to tear the world apart. Phoenix's Joker focuses more on Arthur Fleck--childlike, scorned, and ultimately still learning and adapting to his new warped mentality of the world.

She started off as a one time character for a single ep of BTAS, people really liked her so they kept her to the point they decided to make her canon to the comics too. But the problem is that I think that DC wants to pretend there is much more to her character rather than being Mistah J's stockholm syndrome girl. I feel whenever she is "indepedent" from Mistah J, it rarely works, with exceptions of course but they keep acting like she is this feminist icon...dude, she is a fucking nutjob that was in an abusive relationship with an even bigger nutjob, she aint it!

Also she is sexy so there is that.

Yeah and the sad thing is that even Suicide Squad understood this since Harley's motivations were mostly for the Joker.

As for Joaquin, I really hope he gets more prestige for the role because this was probably the most depth ever given to a comic villain on the big screen that is a monumental achievement.

^And like you guys said, female Deadpool!Harley is good in small doses. Will audiences react well to four movies of Harley with the "strong independent lesbian who don't need no clown!" gimmick? It'll get old fast.
