Pan Pizza is a little wacky but it's getting pretty grating the praise he's giving to this show, he's mentioned it more than once. Somehow he thinks its accurate to say that the comedy in Jellystone is the same as Smiling Friends. While they both possess random-ish humor jellystone is functionally formless in comparison, relying entirely on what children will make memes of and hopefully be able to siphon it for ratings. Even the clip he uses doesn't support the idea. Comparison starts around 6:25.

I don't even have a proper response to this. Are CH Greenblatt and his writers just a bunch of overrated furries and vorefags? Isn't the whole point of this dumb cartoon to encourage new kids to go watch the old trash on Boomerang? Because if it is, it sure isn't doing a good job of it when they find out the characters in the old shows are nothing like this and didn't have gender transitions and deviantart fetishes.

It's weird that theydid a cartoon planet/space ghost coast tocoat reference without having the little blinking sounds each time zorak blinks. The half assed imitation kind of just makes it even more blatant.

Guess he's not funky fresh anymore...

Kinda funny they had the three of them doing the john lennon walk

cartoon fans are mentally deranged if they can look at smiling friends and say "yep uh-uh exactly like this kids cartoon"

Eh, he sounds more like the original Zorak voice from the 60s cartoon, but I will say that he sounds more like Croker's Zorak as the episode continues. The villains and Space Ghost are still easily the best part of the episode, though.

...and that's the only praise I'll give Jellystone.

I didn't see the rest of the episode. I do kind of want to though. Anyway, they were clearly trying to make it an homage to the Space Ghost Coast to Coast/Cartoon Planet versions of those characters and not the originals, as even in that clip I posted they referenced Cartoon Planet. Also both Brak and Moltar (who was also originally voiced by Croker) sounded like those versions of them, so either way Zorak was just off.

It was actually kind of nice to hear Andy Merrill back again as Brak... but like Zorak, he wasn't acting like Brak at all. He was acting like he was the leader of the three, and that's just not Brak. Don't even get me started on how he looked, but that's probably just the visual style of the show in general. Regardless, it's shit.
 
This show is still going? Holy Hanna (Barbera).

I tried the first three episodes once. Yogi Bear knowing what "poop" is will never not be wrong. He's a classic cartoon character, that kind of thing fundamentally should not exist in his world.

What's next, Yogi Bear knowing what prions are?

Outhouses and bathrooms exist in Hannah Barbera cartoons, I don't think them pooping is too much of a stretch unless you're like randy stair and assume cartoon characters have no assholes.

The show kinda bothers me a little due to other reason involving the attitude of some of the people making it and some characterization stuff but poop is nowhere near "oh no that makes no sense!!"

If he's smarter than the average bear he absolutely knows what prions are and just never brings it up.

It "making no sense" isn't the problem. The problem is its gross, and I don't like gross-out humor. Classic toons like the HB characters and the Looney Tunes don't need to be indulging in that, and it was never their thing in the past.

If I wanted that kind of thing I'd watch Ren and Stimpy.

So my first impulse was to say "wasn't the whole joke that Yogi only thinks he's smart but really he's kinda stupid?"

But then I remember the movie Yogi's Great Escape where he built a car that runs on nuts and berries and... yeah I have to concede your point.

I haven't heard of this but.... I can believe it.

As much as I like the classic Hanna-Barbera cast, there's a reason most of their staying power has been in crossovers like Yogi's Gang or The Good, The Bad, and Huckleberry Hound.... or, indeed, Jellystone. By themselves, the characters are basically one-note jokes that you can't really do a whole lot with. It's kinda like superhero universes where there's a lot of no-names who only ever come up because they were part of a team (which in fact was the whole reason Justice League was created).

The oddest part about Jellystone to me is the fact it features characters like Jonny Quest and Hadji. Like... for one thing, its just odd in general seeing Jonny Quest characters interacting with the "funny animal" side of Hanna-Barbera at all, since the action heroes were always kind of their own thing (it would make more sense for the likes of the Scooby Gang to be here, since there's already precedent due to things like Laff-a-Lympics).

Secondly... okay, its no mystery why Jonny and Hadji are gay now (hello, current year!) but that leaves me with another question: what happened to Jessie Bannon? I mean, this show is bending over backwards to add more female representation (nominally by gender-flipping legacy characters) but also actually excluding a canon legacy female character? What gives?

Irl? They can break into pretty much anything but it's a special kind of retarded smart because they do it solely because they think they smell food nearby. They're the kind of animal that'll break into your car for a single dorito.
