Let's share some underrated bands from Japan which has banger tracks. I'll start:

Les Rallizes Dénudés is a band which is at the same time controversial and magnificent. They almost never recorded songs on a studio and practically all of the band's songs published on YouTube are bootlegs. The band played in live most of the time and every time they played a song they changed something in it, like a part of the lyrics or chord, just like Pink Floyd. I recommend starting to listen to his music via A Memory Is Far:

The band's guitarist and founder, Mizutani, unfortunately passed away. He was a very skilled guitarist in my opinion and his solos are very unique. He used to carry a knife to all his shows as a safety measure, and a photograph was taken:

This photograph became the cover of one of the band's bootlegs, called Heavier Than A Death In The Family.

Actually if you join the band's website you'll this, accompanied by a distorted guitar sound, probably from Mizutani.

So, about the controversy... The band's former bassist was a member of the Red Army Faction, of the Japan Communist League. This faction one day began an operation known as the Yodo-go Hijack, in which the members hijacked a plane. Read about here.

In the cover of a CD by the band there was a swastika on the drums XD
I don't know why.

Not sure if I would call it underrated, but Shinsei Kamattechan has published some heavy bangers.

Their most popular one being "Ruru's Suicide Show on a Livestream" was made in memory of Rorochan, a 14 years old girl who livestreamed her suicide in 2013, thinking it would turn her into some kind of idol or legend.

My personal favorite being "33 Year Old’s Summer Vacation"

I've never listened to much of Shinsei Kamattechan's music except for Ruru's song. I'm going to start listening to her albums.

Can't go past Ningen Isu the aesthetics work so well with the themes and sound

also I just like math rock

I only know 2. Maximum the Hormone:

The scene this plays in during the film is epic:

Also, Wagdug Futuristic Unity:

The anime this song is from is very underrated and criminally overlooked:

I am currently a big fan of the Peggies. They do the Rent-a-Girlfriend OP 1 Centimeter but their non anime related songs are great.

I know Little Buster is the go to album for The Pillows. I do like the album and I really enjoy the original FLCL. Living Fields (1995) is a better jam, though.

Been really into LOSTAGE this last couple of years or so:

X Japan's guitarist always had a cool solo project, might be nostalgia vision but I loved this shit as a teenager:

You guys need Mad Capsule markets in your life.

Agreed:

And to conclude, one of my favourite tunes that just happens to be Japanese:
