...A picture is worth a thousand words, people. Nevertheless, has anyone watched it? how much does it trash the plot, atmosphere and sentiments of the original one?
 
Personally I don't think it was horrible, just a little bit below mediocre. The actor's not the best and you don't really believe he's going through anything like you did in the original, but the biggest problem is that they didn't capture the atmosphere as well. For a remake it felt more like a mediocre sequel.
 
Did anyone, anyone at all, even ask for this? Jacob's Ladder was already a cult film and fans of it already enjoyed it enough.

And normally I don't take RT seriously but when something has 4%...that's bad. That's really fucking bad!

This is pretty appalling to make a remake of Jacob's Ladder, which is one of the best horror movies, I mean just look at that generic as hell poster, looks like a straight to video movie, not to mention that one thing that made the original so effectively creepy was the gritty look at lot of late 80s, early 90s films had, there's no way you could replicate that with shooting on digital, so the whole idea of a Jacob's Ladder remake is flawed from that alone.

But the fact that I had no idea this movie had even come out says it all, this will be forgotten fast.

Yup, it's out, if you catch my drift -- that you can use to set sail to the high seas.

It's one of those movies that it's not a full-on horror movie, but a very dark drama that's borderline horror, and these are becoming one of my favorite genres. Akira Yamaoka always mentions that the Hell scene is where he took the inspiration for the atmosphere in the Silent Hill videogames. So not only it's a fantastic movie, it's very influential.


There really is no reason to not watch the original and completely disregard this piece of trash.
 
I haven't seen the remake, but I saw a review on youtube. The person was saying that it basically has none of the emotional underpinnings of the original, like instead of the accidental death of Jacob's son, it's his brother who's angle is promptly forgotten in like 5 minutes. And she said there was too much action and bad CGI which is pretty much a movie killer in general. She said the remake ends in rap music for christ's sake.

I loved the original, it was one that showed me a more philosophical big picture outlook on life when I was a kid. The imagery was truly terrifying, I had nightmares for a while after. But the ending was powerful, one of the few times I've actually cried watching a movie. One of my all time favorites. Needless to say I'm not watching the remake.
 
As someone who follows a bunch of horror movie news sites such as BD and Culture crypt.
No one has even fucking mentioned this remake holy shit, I have seen more people mention The Banana Splits than this straight to tv crap.
 
I didn't know a remake was even happening but I'm glad to hear it's being swept under the rug since it's so bad. The original deserves way more respect than some crappy remake.

The original Jacob's Ladder is a fantastic move and the train scene is one of my favorite movie scenes of all time. As far as horror goes I'd put it up these with Alien and The Thing.
I'd highly recommend it to anyone who has never seen it. Although its a horror movie it's more psychological horror so you don't have to worry about the big spooks.
 
What the fuck, the original was just about perfect, what the hell is this garbage? What troglodyte thought making a nigger protagonist and rap music would make it a better film? I might have considered watching it if there was a sandnigger hell and monsters but that would never happen in the current year.
 
I usually like to recommend this movie along with "Angel Heart" from '87, 3 years earlier than "Jacob's Ladder". It's another very dark drama/borderline horror with a brooding atmosphere, fantastic cinematography and then there's peak Mickey Rourke. Fantastic movie all around.


I'm only posting one scene but the whole movie is fantastic, the exchanges between both characters get darker and darker as the story progresses, it's really good. For those that haven't seen it, just dive right in, you won't regret it.

Christopher Nolan credits this movie as his inspiration for Memento.
While not initially a success with North American audiences, Angel Heart has gained a cult following. Filmmaker Christopher Nolan stated the film was a major influence on his 2000 film Memento: "In terms of Memento, Alan Parker films such as Angel Heart and The Wall, which use very interesting editing techniques such as a fractured narrative, were a big influence."
