Is there any correlation between Fears and Fetishes?

Both of them kinda develop out of nowhere and both give you a certain feeling where maybe you shouldn't feel this way about things but you do for some reason.
One where you are irrationally scared about something and the other irrationally gives you a boner when you think about it.

I guess they both involve the sympathetic nervous system.

Even the most reasonable people are afraid of things though. Meanwhile the claim that everyone has a fetish isn't actually true, fetishes are usually relegated to people who lack emotional intelligence, are repressed, or who try to make sexual arousal a cornerstone of their life and become desensitized.

For 95% of people who are into weird shit, the solution is to masturbate less and find another outlet for their neurotic energy.

Yeah. I have a fear of fish and the deep water. But a fetish of mine would be to be dragged 100s of feet underwater and fucked by some cryptid mermen and then left to deal with what happened in the water. Maybe related to ooze or goo in the sense of all surrounding devouring? Not even human looking but just humanoid enough. let your imagine run wild on that. I cant even go into the water if i see a minnow or gubby. I will actually get nausea if i see them.

There are four basic responses to fear.
Fight, flight, freeze, and submission. Sometimes we experience odd reactions to things we fear.
It's called fawning, where you try to appease the threat through compliance. It's not to be partnered with fight, flight or freeze, because it is a voluntary response. Fight, flight, and freeze are involuntary physiological changes in body and mind when faced with a threat.

It is not correlated with arousal (fetish). Fear specifically causes disgust factors to rise (more so in females than males). In real life when presented with the situation, rarely anyone will get a fear boner regardless of their fetish. I would say a true sexual reaction to being confronted with something they fear IRL is a fight response. Sex and fighting is a significant portion of our evolutionary history, and it's interwoven.

Think I read about that somewhere before. It makes sense.

Not absolutely imo, otherwise there'd be much more people roaming around with foot phobia and a whole lot more snake/spider/insect fursuiters.
