Or is there a separation of the two?

I always thought of mind as the software and brain is the hardware
The perfect way to put it, the mind deals with the interior mental processes (thinking, reasoning, dreaming, etc.), while the brain deals more with the physical processes (receiving electrical signals, maintaining synapses, etc).

The conscious part of you is in the cortex of the brain. Everything that you know and feel consciously happens when something in the cortex is working, and we can see it light up on an MRI. However, there are many functions of the brain that are not cortex related, and you cannot control or feel, but are important. Memory allocation, pattern recognition, limbic system, etc

Study biology you apes.
