Is taking illegal drugs a personal choice or punishable crime?

I see many pro drug opinions on both libtard and right wing part of the internet
Tell me your honest opinion about it
Also, please note how common drug addicts are in where you live

Drug addicts are everywhere here - in fact my state has one of the highest addiction rates.

I really do not mind persons taking drugs as it is always a personal choice and I do not see it is as a criminal matter at all. I'm a lefty. But being an addict is not really a choice, and it is more sad than criminal.

I've had addictions and conquered them for over a decade now and addictions are pure hell so when I run into an addict, I know I'm talking to the addiction and not really the person. Then gain, some people are and always were assholes who developed an addition so for them rather than pity I see it as inevitable cosmic justice.

I used to be in the 'personal choice' camp right around the moment until you could go to just about any grocery store parking lot here and see white trash sows nodding off with a bunch of kids in the back of their minivans in high summer temps. My indifference ends around the time other people, especially children, are suffering from your retarded behavior.

I don't mind drugs both legal or illegal until the user has obviously been taking enough to where they're now retarded physically and mentally. I really don't find illegal drug law enforcement (shit like crack) that useful since they go after users for the most part instead of manufacturers and distributors since that would mean many governments in the US to do physical infighting with itself instead of cringe ideological ones. No I'm not against public intoxication laws it's just I don't like how they ass patt themselves over throwing the same junkie in the slammer for the 5th time who's clearly given up on life when they can be going after Joanne in accounting and Officer Gomez in a different jurisdiction who're helping cartels to smuggle in all types of shit into the US but hey you fuck with one of us you fuck with all of us(something I see a lot from the gigga thin blue line faggots who make it obvious they snort the kool-aid powder off the boot).

I despise drugs but it is a personal choice.
I think it's a massive weakness but all vices are weaknesses that should be something to overcome or be controlled.

That said @A-Stump is correct the minute it effects kids or anything or anyone innocent I've got no mercy for you. You wanna live your life in a haze or use chemicals because life is just too hard for you? Fine do it on your own property with other consenting adults. But you should face extremely harsh penalties for any damage you may cause to anyone or anything. If we can be stern with children then adults have no right to use "I was under the influence!" As a defense.

I like drugs, I do drugs, I know a large amount about them because I like reading about them.

Drugs, like all things, are a tool. They are not good or bad in themselves, it all depends on what you do with them.
I don't want to shoot a dead horse, but in case someone here never actually thought about this topic, the categorization of "legal substances", "pharmaceutical products" and "illegal drugs" is absolutely arbitrary.

You will never bat an eye if someone takes recreational drugs on a weekly basis (alcohol), you do not mind if your child is given powerful stimulant amphetamines to take on a daily basis (like Adderall), but you are shocked if someone does something like mushrooms, LSD, or MDMA occasionally? It's on you.

Drugs, like most things, can be destructive. From alcoholics that do so legally, to pharma-prescribed opiate addicts, to the pothead that destroyed his willpower and discipline by doing cannabis legally all the time, to the crackhead that does illegal cocaine whenever possible.

You can do drugs of all types (yes, you can do meth occasionally for recreational purposes without any danger if you know what you're doing) without harming anyone. Plenty of people do that, I do that. But you never hear about those people, only about the junkies and those with addictions that ruin their own lives and the lives of others. It's a sample bias.

In short, drugs are a neutral thing. People should be educated about them in order to lower the probability of them falling into traps they could've avoided otherwise, and much like alcohol there should be pressure onto people about how "we all agree that's it's not a good thing per se, but if you want to do it, you can, but tread very carefully, people stronger than you perished in the hands of substance abuse".

And don't get me started about how food is the most common substance abuse there is. America is a country of addicts to sugar. Take sugar away from an obese woman and see if she acts differently than a crackhead in withdrawal.

I'm shocked no one is giving their kid DMT before school everyday. Have little Timmy microdose that shit everyday and he'll reach machine elf Nirvana by 18th grade.
