Is East Asian work culture good?

An employee at TSMC once said, "My work is my religion." That is a grand attitude for getting work done but a poor outlook upon one's own value in life. If he ever becomes too injured to work any longer then I can't imagine what he'd do after being deprived of his "religion."

South Asians are the hardest workers in the whole world. It's actually crazy. Any business should be snapping up as many of them as possible, they'll get results.

Innovation or individual efforts are not seen or rewarded like they would be in the west.
I feel like this is a meme. The old "Easterners are a bunch of traditionalists who avoid innovation" trope has been long disproved. I mean, take a look at China: A dystopian communist hellhole turned second biggest world economy threatening America's influence in the world in the span of 40 years meanwhile Americans are still trying to keep their economy tight by waging war in the Middle East.

China's still a dystopian autocracy but they've never pretended they weren't. Plus, if something is outdated but still works what's the matter? Can't fix what ain't broken.

It literally can't be worse than American corporate work culture. I would take being overworked and underpaid over being overworked, underpaid, and systemically discriminated against because of your race any day of the week. Hell, at least the gooks are meritocratic, and if you produce results will promote and pay you close what you are actually worth. American corps will kick you to the ground and rub your nose in shit even if you are single handedly carrying your entire department on your back.
Dude, i. japan you need to literally bow down to whatever inbred asshole owns your company, and you get discriminated if there's anything unsavoury about your family history.

It really seems to boil down how setin businesses get. Once you get institutional rot the companies are pretty much unsalvageable like modern Square Enic and Nintendo.

It's great for creating a society that's nice to live in, however, you will hate your life, or lack thereof, so you barely get to taste the fruits of it.
As some people have noted in previous comments, East Asians palette-swapped feudalism for corporatism in order to bootstrap themselves into modernity, but now, having dropped not only the bad parts of the past that kept them backwards but the good parts that bring about personal fulfillment and societal continuity, they are dying a slow death of social atomization. They work, but for what purpose?

Honestly you want an work culture that’s in between the Asian and European work ethic.

Work hard and push yourself to work while knowing your own limits.

It has some positive trade-offs, but I'd say it's a net negative for the societies it prevails over.

In the short-to-medium term, it produces high burnout, poor mental health, credential inflation, and an unsatisfactory work-life balance. In the long-term, the former problems accumulate and lead to poor personal relationships, loneliness, an unhealthy population, and population collapse. It's essentially "behavioral sink" writ large, and as a consequence, all of the supposedly positive aspects of such a workplace culture become ultimately unsustainable.

Is it not neglecting the fact that China steals a lot? They don't give a single fuck. And it's not reflective of the actual work culture. It's simple economy. They are good at being cheap and reliable. And they take full advantage of it.

China copies more than they innovate. And the beauty of it is that there is nothing anybody can do about it. They have such a monopoly on cheap labour, as well as a fucking huge consumer market.

The price of doing business with China is to get ripped off. And that's not an if, it's a when.

I am obviously not saying that they don't innovate, I am sure they do. But to climb the ranks in a Chinese company to a position where you can actually grow and make a difference is much harder than it would be anywhere in the West I think.

Plus, if something is outdated but still works what's the matter?
The stock price must go up.

No, it's mostly fucked. Longer hours spent at work does not translate into higher output.
That kind of work culture can completely consume your life and also define you as a person. I spent too long in that system and feel a mixture of disgust, sympathy and superiority towards it and the poor little average bugmen and women that will never know anything else.

Are you working for one? From what I hear they're clean, efficient, no DEI HR ladies, etc. You can say they're overworked burnouts but we have those in the US too. I think the problems people talk about in East Asian work culture is just chalked up to Confucianism and people being East Asian. Westerners didn't last nearly as long under salaryman work culture but produced way more interesting things.
