This mass rise in food delivery services might be one of the most horrifying and degenerate things I've seen in a while. It's just outright decadent, depraved piggishness.

Thank god things are falling apart and people probably won't be able to afford it for much longer, because otherwise in 10 years the only two jobs available to the average person would be food prep, food delivery, and Amazon warehouse employee.

Using these apps is basically a litmus test for being subhuman. Using these apps tells me that you:
a) are exceptionally lazy
b) eat fast food often
c) are bad with money
d) don't care at all about your privacy

I'm not perfect. I eat shitty soy amerimutt fast food sometimes. But at least when I want it I can go outside and get it myself.

I'm fat and have the money to pay for it and yes, it is a luxury. I love it. I've worked restaurant jobs and as they go being a delivery driver is tits. You can choose your hours, you can decline deliveries, you can listen to the music that you like while you work, and it pays better than washing dishes in any restaurant.

Food delivery apps are only possible because bugmen in cities don't think 30+ dollars for 1 meal is unreasonable. The VCs that fund techshit all live in the bay area, where devs easily make 300k+ comp and non devs get caught up living paycheck to paycheck to get the 'silicon valley' experience. Walkable cities are a meme. You realistically can only get food within a 12 minute walk from your house. In places like SF, there are so many hills and city shit happening that your radius is extremely small. Every restaurant within your radius is going to be extremely over priced and mediocre, and your grocery options are limited to the corner store that markets everything up 5x, unless you are lucky enough to live next to the 1 trader joes in your city. You don't have a car, and even if you did, you couldn't find parking anyways. So imagine the average professional, who gets tired of all the food options within walking distance and makes multiple times the average salary of an american. They get takeout everyday and spend thousands on delivery every month.
Doordash is also shit food. I've never had a good experience. Food is always cold and soggy. The cloud kitchen restaurants are universally bad.

Doordash/Ubereats etc are just a rebranding of the same shit just more widespread and an extra premium on top.

It's a scheme to separate lazy plebs from even more of their money while simultaneously making them fatter. "You never need to cook or do dishes! Just do Doordash and starting at $50.00 total a night, cold fast food will be delivered right to your door!"

I have a couple friends who are otherwise really smart and making six figure salaries or close to it and wasting a huge chunk of it on delivered fast food every night. It's exasperating.
