Everybody is talking about the level of competition, but they ignore the reality that networks wanted a bigger piece of the pie, both for viewership $, but also as influence/propaganda. They are rigged heavily in favour to get trending, get accelerated by being spread more. This has been studied.
There's also the whole demonetisation that's played as making things ad-friendly, but is more likely a politically motivated backroom deal over influence, the same way a lot of political content by non-networks got demonetised.
