Is any fandom safe from spergs?

Judge Holden dijo:
I have decided that Lovecraftian fiction is the one fandom which is free and safe from the taint of spergs, due to the lack of affirmation and pandering to their "feelz" which spergs feed upon like ticks in other fandoms, the uh... "political incorrectness" of Lovecraft himself (see his nigger poem for reference) which keeps away the SJW types, the utter lack of characters who can be easily be twisted into a sperg's personal wish fulfilment mary sue, and the dark uncertainty and nihilistic hopelessness that permeates the genre of cosmic horror which is far to unnerving and uncomfortable for the average pampered sperg used to having clear cut good/evil conflict in which good always wins.
I don't really know much about Lovecraftian fiction aside from hearing about Cthulhu and Ry'leh but is it really safe from the tainted corruption of spergs? What if they start sperging about who is better such Cthulhu vs. Nyarlathotep or even sperg about which Lovecraft game is better, be it Call of Cthulhu or Alone in the Dark (the first one that predated Resident Evil.)? Even if there is a lack of characters who can be twisted into some mary-sue, what if the sperg makes some mary-sue who once hailed from Innsmouth and was once the "husband waifu deep-one of Cthulhu and inbred cousin of Nyarlathotep"? In fact, what if the sperg actually feels comfortable in evil winning or at least doesn't mind the nihilistic hopelessness of the cosmic horror genre? By the way, didn't Lovecraft give his cat a racist name?

I think every fandom, has its pocket of spergs. The important thing is to not think some spergs, represent a whole fandom. Not every furry is a creep, not every anime fan is a weaboo, etc.

I agree with ya on that. After all, not every brony is a guy who masturbates to a technicolored horse and not every COD fan is some idiot who spouts sexist, racist, and homophobic comments in online matches. Really though the spergs are more focused on probably because they seem more interesting than some fair-minded, controlled fan due to the fact that the sperg can be a trainwreck-in-waiting once someone manages to rustle the jimmies of the sperg. Don't forget since some furries are creeps and some anime fans are weebs, who won't stop, pull out a chair and some popcorn and watch the sperg doing things that make the majority of the fandom look like something its not. The spergs themselves can ruin the fandom, best thing one can do is hold Newton's third law of reaction: "For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction." By that, I mean that within each fandom, their will always be the good fan and the bad fan. One who is just a normal fan that probably buys the shirt and maybe a few related merchandise, and one that is a bad fan who likes to write wish-fulfillment fan-fics of there OC mary-sue while also drawing terrible art of their OC with their "waifu".

Off topic but Picklepower your icon frightens me.

Haha yeah, its a guy in a Max Headroom mask. In the 80's some people hacked a Tv stations signal, and aired like 2 minutes of strangeness. Its creepy at first, but then its kinda funny because its an old school example of trolling, in a way.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kUwt-JFS ... qZB-vce4wk Here is a good video about it. I think someone should hack a Tv feed and broadcast Chris's love doll/shower videos. I think that may scare people more actually.

Oh another funny thing, this incident actually has an Imdb entry.

No cartoon is safe, because a Google search will yield drawings of the characters fucking.

But...that's the best part of the internet. If it exists, there's porn to it.

Meh, this just makes MLP tolerable. Lovecraft cannot be corrupted by anything, and anything that references his work is made infinitely better for it,

As of yet I have yet to see any sign of such activity on a small scale, let alone a wide-scale infestation. Sure the possibility exists but it seems to be pretty covert if it does exist. As for the "Mary Sue" risk of certain characters, the only cases I can think of are from some of the most significant propagators of lovecrafts work and mythos like August Derleth (who created a "super nice and good twin of cthulhu out for revenge against the evil old ones for killing his wife....yeah) and Brian Lumley (who created "Titus Crow" who is one of the biggest mary sues ever to grace fiction, just read his TV tropes page) but even then these deviations are somewhat balanced out by the volumes of positive work and input the two have put into the genre.

As for whether a sperg could corrupt the cosmic horror genre by wanting "evil to win", i doubt that very much since sperg class mary sues are nigh universally on the "winning side" of whatever conflict they are in, and their sides are universally portrayed as good and perfect no matter what evil and monstrous actions they partake in (see Twilight), and thus the cosmic horror would be preserved through subtext (just as the theme of Bella and co being repulsively sociopathic scumbags is preserved in Twilight). That said, given how unappealing the work is to the romantic/power/revenge fantasy mary sues due to how much lovecraft emphasised how repulsive and nauseating all the supernatural entities are as verbosely as possible, the average prissy and ultra sensitive sperg would be put off rather quickly.

Honestly the closest things to sperg style mary-sues and self indulgent fanfics I can think of are all outright parodies and spoofs (i.e. sense and sensibility and seamonsters, the south park with cthulhu, the Nostalgia Chick's 50 shades of green, and Haiyore Nyarko San which has loli-nyarlathotep.... yeah really) and thus dont count.

Actually, as much as I hate to acknowledge anything fan-fiction, Lovecraft encouraged it, because he had Robert Bloch and other contemporaries writing in his universe. Sherlock Holmes had fan-fiction at the turn of the century in the same manner.

So the sperg activity is rather obscure then huh, guess Lovecraft fans have it better than any other fandom. Considering the spergs' "winning side" to universally be good and perfect no matter how evil the actions they partake in are, I guess that isn't worry-some since you also say that cosmic horror is unappealing to romantic/power/revenge fantasy mary sues.

^ The two concepts are utterly anathema to each other. The typical sperg produced mary sue fic is geared towards insanely self indulgent and self gratifying power/revenge/romance/whatever fantasies in which the aquthor's stand in/overly idealised character is the centre of that universe and unable to find any opponant or adversity that they wont triumph over with ease. The Cosmic horror story has at its heart the message that all of humanity and its achievements are utterly unimportant, powerless, and irrelevent to the wider universe, and that humanity is nothing more than an easily erased speck of dust in an endless cosmos filled with nothing but darkness, insanity, and ancient evil.

Of course the relative obscurity and esoteric nature of the genre likely is a key part of its freedom from infestation.

The real test of my theory will only come when lovecraft reaches the popularity of Harry potter or MLP in the public conciousness. Though on that dark day, when fics come out detailing the adventures of Princess Emperor M'arisuth'iel the Beautiful and her pegasus-shoggoth and how they totally kick azathoth's ass, win the affections of broody, dark, and mysterious tsundere Nyarlathotep, and ascend to the throne of her beloved father Yoggy while having the heads of all the kids who mocked the princess in school be fed to the Lloigar, I think I may just lie down on the nearest beach and let the tide take me to somewhere where such detestable bullshit does not exist

I think Lovecraft is safe from Potteresque levels, and that's okay by me. I've recommended Lovecraft to many a Stephen King fan who couldn't be bothered to read the godfather of modern horror. Their loss.

I have read just about every Lovecraft story, I'm pretty sure. My favorites are "The Hound", "Dreams in the Witch-House" and "The Shadow over Innsmouth", off the top of my head. I seem to remember "Polaris" being pretty awesome, too.

With all the talk of Lovecratian horror in this thread, I may as well give Lovecraft a shot even though I'am not a reader. Perhaps I'll find it interesting, especially without the spergy mary-sue wish-fulfillment fan-fics.

my fav story by lovecraft is the one with the dog creatures that that one guy paints doing creepy shit

i forget the name

I tend to not mind spergs if they keep their obsession to their respective website/forum.

Most of them seem to follow this unspoken rule except for the Ron Paul spergs who invade random forums and flood the forums on how Ron Paul is the new Messiah or some stupid shit like that.

I remember some teenaged acquaintances talking out their ass, up and down, before the Republican primary, that Paul was going to get the nod. I calmly explained to them that there was no way he was going to get the party support for the nomination, and they we're all "Naaa, bro! You're believin' the MEDIA, brooo! They WANT you to think that!". Then they all shut up for a few days after he didn't.

The Deadpool fandom. Because face it, if you like the character, you are already kind of a sperg.

(and I say this with all conviction because dammit I'm such a Deadpool fangirl and not sorry.)

So does that mean it's safe from normal people?

I can understand why teenagers would follow Ron Paul (most high schoolers have this "guy fawkes revolutionist" attitude when it comes to politics), but there's a certain group of people I know who put North Korean's to shame when it comes to the irrational worship of a person. And bear in mind these are all college-educated people who whilst saying that personal liberties and civil rights should be upheld, agree with Ron Paul's assertion that 13 year old African American males should be treated as an adult but not a 13 year old white male.

Thankfully none of you have to worry about any of these people working as a surgeon or a lawyer because they are all predictably either philosophy majors or undecided (after 4 years of college...)
