Talk To Me was shit. I didn't even bother with Let Her In because of how fucking god awful I found Talk To Me.
I think Skinamarink was also made by a youtuber but that was movie was also dogshit and incredibly pretentious.
Now the channel That's A Bad Idea is mainly a comedy skit channel but also dips their toes into horror, is releasing a film called Obsession which in spite of better judgment I'm looking forward to checking out. Their horror is pretty decent for a comedy channel.
 
Interesting choice, a game that's shorter than feature length movie run time.

I watched an LP of this a while ago, the setting does grab you and make you curious where it's going. I thought the hour long play was enough to explore the gimmick, if Markiplier managed to expand it, good for him. I'll give it a watch.

Does Shelby Oaks count? I can't find how many theaters it released in. I know Chris Stuckmann funded it through Kickstarter, not sure if Neon kicked in extra money at the end.

Shelby Oaks was produced by Paper Street Pictures, an indie production company. While Stuckmann funded the movie largely through the kickstarter, he had a lot of help from Paper Street in actually producing the movie.
 
Surprised this got a film, the game is really lame. 'Sit in box, click things, WOAH BIG SPOOPY MONSTER!' Total streamer bait.

Might pirate the film when it goes up. There has been fuck all half decent in theaters recently anyway.
 
Does it avoid the "🚨THIS WAS MADE BY A YOUTUBER🚨" feel that most any Youtube-related productions seem to carry? I dismissed it based on the trailer alone, which I watched only because I was skeptical to begin with, but reading this makes me want to at least give it a chance.

You mean Bring Her Back, and while I haven't seen Talk To Me, the former is gory good fun.

Mark claims in his video that he doesn’t think it was intentional, I disagree with that. The fact that a budget indie horror got into the top 5 for the weekend, let alone holding first place for most of that time, is a massive embarrassment to Hollywood, and I wouldn’t be surprised if there was a brief attempt to hide how well it was performing until the coverup got attention.

Also, saw the movie earlier in the evening. Id say it was good. Not mind blowing by movie standards, but extremely impressive for what it was. There were a couple YouTubers in the credits, but their presence completely went over my head, and it seems that they were just used for additional background voices.
 
Not gonna watch it but I'm happy for him. If there were a youtuber who could actual pull off making a passable film it would be Mark. Can't say the same for retards like Charlie, Jacksepticeye or redditlettermedia for that matter.

The credits said that Jack was in the movie, but even going in with that knowledge I couldn’t pick out his voice.

Which I see as a good thing. It means while Mark wanted his friends involved, he was self-aware enough to realize that giving them all a major role would be a terrible idea
 
I watched this movie and couldn't understand a lot of the dialogue from the intercom, especially when the woman started yelling. The worldbuilding was poor, like a lot of video game movies there is an implicit assumption that you have played the game already and will let the story take shortcuts, but I didn't even know that a video game existed before seeing "based on the video game" in the opening credits. Not a bad way to spend an afternoon, but so far the only good Youtuber movie out there is Bring Her Back.

That might've been due to the theater you went to

Apparently there's been an ongoing issue oftheaters fucking up the audio balancing, I fortunately seemed to get lucky & everything sounded fairly audible during my viewing, but according to what reviews I've read it's been a semi-common occurrence since the opening night

Tbf there's honestly not a lot more lore you'd really learn from the video game than what's already shown in the film, if anything it actually adds considerably more worldbuilding

For a serious answer, the second cinema snob movie. Brad's first movie is alright, if a bit pretentious, but the second is genuinely great, it's a damn enjoyable road trip movie about the generic soul searching premise, but Brad, Tamara and Rob can act, there's a really fucking good cameo, and it's got a few fun jokes.

The thing about stories being based on youtubers, like the TheOdd1sOut show and everything else, is that they are largely built in the mold of Seinfeld, of all things. Take a known funnyman, have his humour used as the core of a slice-of-lifey comedy show.

The problem is that very few youtubers are actually Seinfeld-funny. Most are instead just 'relatable' - not that that's a bad thing, mind - and any humour is basically incidental or from the original events they're retelling, rather than their own observations. Thus trying to make a Seinfeld show starring them doesn't work, in large part because funny often requires being a bit of an asshole, and they have very good reasons to not want their persona to be written as a dickhead.

Taking the persona out solves this, which gives real-face youtubers an edge over vtubers and storytime animators - because there's not going to be a jarring moment of 'THAT'S what he really looks like?' It also means that the character they play doesn't have to be constrained by their public image they're trying to maintain.
