Things that worked just fine before the internet shouldn't be changed to need an internet.

Some examples: microwaves, refrigerators, ceiling fans, light bulbs, hot water heaters ...

HVAC units tauting Wifi or other connectivity is a literal red flag. That connectivity feature is literally asking to be a killswitch to shut your unit off without your permission, for "reasons".

  • Fridge should be just a place to keep one's food and drink cold.
  • Why the hell does there need to be those "smart" fridges anyway?
  • Why does a "smart" fridge need to be connected to the internets?
  • Of course there may be advertising on those "smart" fridges now.
  • Can't one just, I dunno, look in the fridge to see what's in it?
