What ways have you benefitted from working out or getting fit that you didn’t expect?
I started working out regularly about two months ago and with the expected weight loss and more energy I’ve noticed that my vocal range has increased when singing, so that’s nice! Probs less fat on the vocal cords or something.

I started working out harder, but I'm getting old as fuck, so I got pretty sick DOMS. Even walking around hurt my shoulders beyond managable from the seated fly's I had done. Debilitating for over a week. But the weird thing is that it hit me like 4 days after the workout. Just not used to that. Now everytime I workout I wonder if I've planted another long time bomb of pain.

I've usually been fit in my life, so the positives like good mood are pretty expected.

Sometime after I became a 30yr Boomer I had my first real case of DOMS. Had been "young sore" before (ignore it, go about day) but never "just woke up and don't want to roll over" sore, and it was really weird doing several workouts in a row then suddenly having the soreness from what I worked 3 days ago kick in.

But it was very short-lived. If you haven't made it to the other side, keep it up. Even after a week off for vacation, I can pretty much jump right back in. Just don't lapse for months on end.

Última edición:
Crossed the 30th parallel a year ago and, damn, I can relate to the poster above saying DOMS hit like never before.

I was used to the pins and needles the day or so after the first proper strength workout in months, but in my late teens and 20's it was never more than a minor annoyance.

A month ago tho, one day I did a strength workout that targeted a bunch of muscle groups for the first time (lower back, shoulders, squats etc) and three or four days after I felt like a train had run me over. Debilitating as fuck and it lasted for about a week.

Do some heavy squats at the end of your workout and rush home to fuck your girl.
No seriously, squats make you horny.
hrm
been doing hindu squats for years but I was always turbohorny so I guess I didn't notice the difference

I still run into the thing where you just pick up the thing and people look at you like you're insane and / or a superhero and you're like "it's literally only fifty pounds what the hell"

Working on my leg strength and squat mobility changes the way I do stuff at home like lifting anything, or picking stuff off the floor (bend the knees and slav squat down instead of bending my back/lumbar). Definitely is better for the back.

Kettlebells 95% cured my toe arthritis. Not weight loss, I wasn't fat before. Somehow they just did, and it comes back if I stop using them.
Kettlebells are doing weird good things to me as well.
I have a bad knee and very uneven strength on my arms and back. Unilateral exercises with KB has been way more effective at fixing me than the same shit but with dumbbells. Only way I can explain this is that the uneveness of the weight distribution activates more stabilizer muscles?
Anyway, shit is working and is fun. Love my little cannonballs. ❤️

I've been adding in 20-30 minutes of bodyweight exercises in addition to my usual routine everyday and I've found I'm a lot more agile than I was before. I'm bending easier, carrying myself easier. It's different than when I was doing the same thing in my 20s. Maybe I just need the extra exercise due to my advanced age.
