The novelty of every plot and joke being topical has long worn off for me. "Look, Randy is using ChatGPT! The characters are doing stuff and talking about stuff we are currently doing!" just isn't interesting in itself anymore. There needs to be jokes, adventures and witty stuff to keep me entertained, it isn't enough to just have 20 mins of references to "stuff we are currently doing".

It does feel as if the ideas are running dry and the golden era is long gone. Ideas which are funny or ok the first time are reused until the horse is dead and beaten. We had years of seasons worth of PC plots, then years about Randy's weed farm, the (worst IMO) season where every episode was connected about trolls and Denmark (and Cartman being a fucking simp to his gf "she's smart and funny!") and multiple episodes about AI. oh and how many times are we going to see Randy's wife get mad at him? Reminds me of the Simpsons where if the writers have no ideas they'll just throw together a lazy "Homer does something dumb, Marge gets upset and takes the huff, Homer has to win her back" episode. Or a future episode (which SP has done too).

There's a lot of American politics too which maybe I'm bored with as a Brit, even if they reference the funnier old days by having Trump acting the fool like Saddam did.

And lastly the new characters are just dull and boring. Remember Big Gay Al and Mr Slave (jesuth chritht!) and how funny they were. Meet Mr Garrison's new bf Chris (I think). Boring Chris whom there is nothing of interest to say about him. There's a new angry girl in the school class who is just a blonde clone of Wendy (Wendy is SP's version of Lisa Simpson and one of them is enough).

This season still sees Cartman manipulate Butters into doing something stupid, something I enjoyed as a past. But seeing them sitting in an (electric) car trying to gas themselves with the non-existent fumes bored me. Maybe because in older seasons they would go out and actually do stuff and have an adventure, not sit in a car all episode just for one joke.

I'm starting to question if South Park was really that funny in the first place. Rewatching feels like a chore, I realize how unfunny and forgettable most episodes are.

I'm like 95% sure this season will end with Satan and Trump having a literal butt baby and redditors will soyjack and masturbate furiously at how oh so funny and whacky a Trump ass baby is.

Everyone else including me will think it's cringe and terminally unfunny.

90% of the humor came from saying something mildly controversial about some mildly controversial event that happened 2 months previous to the episode airing. It was never going to have staying power because topical humor is dead the very second the joke is finished. The premise of it was funny initially, but got old decades ago.

Going through the same thing. I wonder if part of it is me getting older. As a kid I thought it was pretty hilarious and would laugh hysterically. Now some of these jokes I don't get or I just sigh and think "Did I really find this funny."

i don't even remember which streaming service has it at this point, and it's not worth googling

I don't watch much so don't pay for any service. I just get stuff from the pirate bay (the latest south park eps can be found on there).

My fav episodes were ones like Marjorine, Cartman pretending to be disabled for the paralympics, Do the handicapped go to hell both parts, the robot one and the peruvian flute band. Basically the ones focusing on the boys going on an adventure or Cartman being a dick but in a clever manipulative way for his own gains. edit- and casa bonita can't forget that one.

Most episodes now seem to have Randy as the main character or trying to fit in the entire town. They have noticeably shifted away from the OG boys as mostly being the main characters.

It's hardly even topical, most people already came to the same conclusion about ChatGPT at least a year ago and they already covered it before this anyway. Plus the vast majority of Trump jokes are just recycled from the past 9 years of twitter.

His current boyfriend is Rick, and maybe he could have been almost interesting if Trey and Matt went through with Garrison running for president again but they just quietly dropped that so he really has no purpose anymore.

Even the electric car suicide attempt is an outdated joke that's been done before. They're definitely just phoning it in now that they have as much money as they could possibly want at this point.

I've kept watching South Park and finding things to enjoy about it up to now. Up to this current season, I could at least say it's getting very old, but still not as tired as The Simpsons and can even get a laugh out of me. I thought South Park was the best thing in the first few seasons when it was surreal poop humor with little more to say about the real world than the occasional roast of a celebrity or pushing back on censorship. The past few episodes have been incredibly boring with the same jokes I could find on Reddit (if I weren't preemptively banned from the subs where they're posted). Trump is a great person to laugh both with and at, so I can only guess they are doing it bad deliberately.
Their parent company recently had to fork over a shit ton of money to Trump for that 60 Minutes Harris interview. I would say it's a good possibility they got orders to make a few episodes or even a whole season a big roast of Trump and a few of the people who helped get him elected, something they don't care that much to do, so they just kind of mail it in. I might give it a couple more chances, but if it's just more "Trump has a tiny dick and is married to Satan", I think I'm just done with it.

The last time I watched south park cartman was living in a hot dog or some shit like that. I was watching it pretty consistently up to the covid one. Then I just petered out with the season after that and haven't been interested since. I have gone on and off it over the years. Especially around this time:
South park completely died after they added PC Principal
I think they were trying to get canceled for a while and that Trey dude was just writing stories about his depressing life. That Wendy and stan dating arc pretty much just seemed like he was writing about his own failed relationship. It did get kind of funny again for a bit around the Disney China one when they seemed like they were trying hard to push things again but then it went back to being boring and dumb.

If they were trying to get canceled, do more jokes about Biden, Kamala, any democrat as long as you don't get canceled like Seth Rich and Vince Foster.

This.

The only episodes I remember without thinking hard are the Cartman ‘beefcake’ and Mega-Streisand episodes. And they are both fucking ancient.

I never really bought into this shit and remain bemused at how it is (or was) regarded as a cornerstone of the zeitgeist for so long.
