I was thinking they might have wanted to get the site down just as the story broke, to try and hamper people's ability to read up/do research (possibly also for Bella's Title IX investigation). They might have jumped the gun a little bit on that one, though.

I agree with Michael Janke going into DFE mode during that time period. For the site outages, you also have to take into consideration that CWC appearing on Tucker Carlson also leads to a spike in legitimate traffic as well. The DDOS increased in complexity significantly when Isabella Loretta Janke earned her own subforum, and that DDOS lasted approximately 24 hours, which suggests someone rented a service that knew what they were doing.

The greater public is fickle, they'll forget as soon as a new outrageous story catches their ears. Sure, it doesn't really stop the compilation of information, but it mitigates people talking about it and keeping it from reaching a cultural critical mass.
