Culture Icelandic Eurovision representatives Hatari present Palestinian flag banners - Eurovision isn't just gay kitsch.

The European Broadcasting Union has hinted at punishment for the Icelandic delegation following Hatari’s protest at the Eurovision Song Contest final.
Tensions have been high this year at Eurovision due to the host country Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territories, with calls for artists and viewers to boycott the contest. And during the voting,
Iceland’s act Hatari showed their support for Palestine by holding up flags and banners reading ‘Palestine’ when the camera cut to them in the green room.
The EBU, which runs Eurovision, said of the protest: ‘In the live broadcast of the Eurovision Song Contest Grand Final, Hatari, the Icelandic act, briefly displayed small Palestinian banners whilst sat in the Green Room. The Eurovision Song Contest is a non-political event and this directly contradicts the contest’s rules. ‘The banners were quickly removed and the consequences of this action will be discussed by the Reference Group (the contest’s executive board) after the contest.’ The rulebook states that artists may not promote any political cause at Eurovision, with disqualification being threatened.

Rule 2.6 reads: ‘The ESC is a non-political event. All Participating Broadcasters, including the Host Broadcaster, shall ensure that all necessary steps are undertaken within in their respective Delegations and teams in order to make sure that the ESC shall in no case be politicised and/or instrumentalised. All Participating Broadcasters, including the Host Broadcaster, shall ensure that no organisation, institution, political cause or other cause, company, brand, product or service shall be promoted, featured or mentioned directly or indirectly during the Event.

‘No messages promoting any organisation, institution, political cause or other, company, brand, products or services shall be allowed in the Shows and within any official ESC premises and/or event (i.e. at the venue, during the Opening Ceremony, the Eurovision village, the Press Centre, the Press Conferences, etc.). A breach of this rule may result in disqualification. The lyrics and/or performance of the songs shall not bring the Shows, the ESC as such or the EBU into disrepute. No lyrics, speeches, gestures of a political, commercial or similar nature shall be permitted during the ESC. No swearing or other unacceptable language shall be allowed in the lyrics or in the performances of the songs.’

Hatari, who came 10th in the final with their song Hatrio mun sigra (Hate will prevail), did not leave their protest with that moment, as they have since added a Palestinian flag to their Instagram account.

Hatari drummer Einar Hrafn Stefánsson also shared a clip to his Instagram, showing two staff members demanding the flags from the group.
One man wearing a Eurovision press pass is heard saying: ‘Give me the flag of Palestine’, while a woman pointed out they had another one hidden.
A Palestinian flag featured elsewhere in the broadcast, as one of Madonna’s backing dancers wore a flag on the back of their jacket.

They walked off with their arm around another dancer, who wore an Israeli flag on their back.
The European Broadcasting Union confirmed this part of the performance had not been vetted saying: ‘In the live broadcast of the Eurovision Song Contest grand final, two of Madonna’s dancers briefly displayed the Israeli and Palestinian flags on the back of their outfits.
‘This element of the performance was not part of rehearsals which had been cleared with the EBU and host broadcaster KAN. ‘The Eurovision Song Contest is not a political event and Madonna had been made aware of this.’

I have a friend who lives in Iceland. He says that the Icelandic representitives now always pick the most political performers, because they don't wanna restrain the wokeness because wokeness.

Iceland is more cucked then some people believe.

There's me thinking they send the most retarded acts just to get them out the country for a bit and to piss off Europe for lulz.

That's what I'd do...

And that's part of the reason why Britain keeps doing poorly despite having the biggest music industry in Europe.

Yeah.

Mostly I think we don't care on account of the fact a lot of the people we enter are nobodies or has-beens from the 1960's- probably because it's not generally great for your image so it keeps the talent away.

Going in thinking we'll do well is a mistake tho, it's best watched to listen to the snark,

I don't get people who cry about Palenstine all the time but don't give a shit how they are treated in muslim countries. In no arabic country are Palestinian allowed to get citizenship. They are treated like garbage in Egypt, Lebanon, Jordanian etc but nobody care about that. It is absolute bullshit.
It's imperative that no measures be taken to deprive them of their oppressed status.

They have to pass through military checkpoints to go anywhere and they can't vote in the election or go in most of Israeli cities, the amount of shit Israeli pulls to erode their human rights and the rate at which they create propaganda pieces to spew out is amazing in it's own, and the UN just turns a blind eye to it all.
They're the most condemned by the UN nation that exists. The amount of shit the palestinians pull from their losing position to me is astounding. Also good rule of thumb, most of the time the people that danger hairs and islamists both hate and want dead are the good guys.

Condemn, yeah, but all the condemnations don't seem to be leading to Israel stopping any of their bullshit.

Also if you're so redpilled that you think kindergarten-tier messages "tolerate each other" are radical political statements maybe you take this shit too seriously.

Yeah tolerate each other is a nice but meaningless message but its a joke if you think the two are equal. This wouldnt even be an issue if the surrounding countries just made the palestinians citizens instead of keeping them perpetual refugees. Israel would stop its shit the second that Palestine stopped doing shit like promising government bucks to anyone who commits a terror attack or buying fuck tons of rockets to fire into Israel. Do you think for a second America would just be like, "its okay, we need to just tolerate each other. We both have problems" if Mexico one day just up and fired a thousand rockets into texas. We'd turn them into a smoking crater.

The second part wasn't directed at you, it was at people earlier in the thread who were saying Eurovision had been having political messages for years by having people promote "diversity and tolerance"

In that case it depends on what diversity and tolerance means because those two words have gotten real fuzzy as of late, to where tolerance can really be intolerance and diversity strict homogeneity of ideas and of people.

As much as I hate defending the shitholes that are muslim countries, if they made them citizens they would essentially be giving up claims on land in palestine.

Palestine is based.
Middle East > Nurope
I absolutely loathe Yurop tbh, they pretend to care so much about human rights and forcefully import the death cult but hold nothing but contempt for people in the third world. When's the last time Yurop gave a shit about Christians in the Middle East, 1099? I never hear people talking about trying to improve society in Africa so it's not just endless war. Their only concern is "import more pakis to pay minimum wage"

Well yeah thats the point. Palestinians are a pawn in geo-politics to them. Even in the first war the plans were to divide up the land not to make a free Palestine.

I saw that moment on live broadcast. The resulting booing from the crowd was louder than the presenters themselves.
At the very least, Iceland, for all their political posturing, had an actually good song. Unlike other countries like France, for example, who had to rely solely on Moroccan androgynous gay guy being woke and stuff.
But that doesn't matter. What matters is
Norway, who had the best song on the contest, was robbed of their rightful victory by corrupt jury vote giving everything to Sweden and fucking North Macedonia
and I'm still salty about it.

TBH that's just Durkas being Durkas I never implied they had benevolent intentions. But if the Palestinians just started moving in, buying houses and starting new lives what would happen when the Reconquista Jihad somehow succeeds is that the Palestinians could never move back in to their old houses, they would just be Egyptians/Jordanians/Syrians.

Israel will stop occupying palestine once the Palestinians learn to behave like civilized people and stop throwing temper tantrums.
That is Israel's worst nightmare. Even the idea that Palestinians are reasonable. Thank Yahweh for ignorant and hateful Hamas and Palestine and their followers. Otherwise Israel would've been forced to concede their territory.

I also don't know why we bother anymore, Eurovision is always politically charged, especially with the voting. Next year the UK should just send The KLF and give them free rein to pump psychotropic gas into the venue or something.
I'd like to see the UK (or France, because we also stopped giving a shit ages ago and it's mostly gay men who watch the contest nowadays) win for once just because I'm curious what will happen. I'm expecting the reaction to be something along the lines of "For fuck's sake, we weren't actually supposed to win"

There's me thinking they send the most exceptional acts just to get them out the country for a bit and to piss off Europe for lulz.

That's what I'd do...

I think that was Germany's shtick for a while. Many countries have done it at some point.

Germany sent this guy.

Video from Eurovision, it's boring as shit so just skip around.

They also sent a comedian with a nonsense song and ridiculous stage act.

Austria sent this guy, this is worth watching for a while just to see what it is. Watch from the beginning to ~1:20 and you will see what I mean.

Some country sent an old man singing about mushrooms in an old man way while wearing a mushroom hat, don't remember who it was.

I don't follow Eurovision of my own free will, it used to be inescapable.
