*HDR400 is not good. You want something with FALD (full array local dimming) with a least a couple hundred zones OR an OLED. Recommended reading for this on tftcentral and monitor recommendations on monitors unboxed. Monitors unboxed does a yearly best of video if you want the quick and dirty.

I probably should've asked this directly but are you alright with used parts? Most things like ram and cpu either work or they don't so saving money on used can be really worth it. Either way I think what you want is doable with your budget. Here's what I would suggest:

His ideal budget is $1000, and my guess is he just wants to archive images and clips for reposting. I wasn't gonna suggest spending money on bulk storage when it could go to other parts of a system.

You could check on Ebay for 3080 or 3080 Ti's. Radeon 6800XT's would also be pretty good value. If you want to go overboard with adding 4K texture mods you could try find a 3090. I linked a lot of hardware reviewers earlier so you can have a look at their GPU reviews for benchmarks to see if buying a high end used card is worth it over a mid-range new card.

No, the 4060 barely beat the 3060 in performance. 3080 is just slightly faster than the 4070 on average.

The Ti version of a card will have slightly increased performance and maybe some extra Vram.

The ROG Ally and Steamdeck should perform the same, the main difference is there's a Steamdeck with an OLED screen and it uses Linux.

Fair enough. Though me saying the performance should be similar is just because I knew they had the same core component.

I would personally not really consider the high refresh rate a major factor, given that for most demanding games, you are going to struggle to reach 60fps as you turn up the settings on both handhelds, and even if you can run a game well above 60fps, you probably want to limit it there for power consumption reasons.

I'm not saying that in particular is a major factor, just pointing out there are other differences than simply one being OLED. Different processors, RAM (24 GB for Ally X vs 16 GB for Steam Deck), operating systems (SteamOS vs Windows), input (Steam Deck has touchpads, probably an important factor for some), battery life (Ally X has a bigger battery, but Steam Deck is better optimized for some games), etc. There's not a clear winner in all aspects, so it makes sense for each person to look at the differences and decide what would work better for them.

considering that buying a brand new card costs about double and could easily have issues, I’d say find a reputable seller and they most likely test their shit.

Realize that around the 3080 TI release there wasn’t all that many miners that kept up as the fad was becoming too expensive for smaller farms to keep up. Increasing your luck if you buy a card from someone who is established in a state where power is costly.

My 3080 ti for example only mined btc for about 1 month before it got parted out.

TL;DR: try buying from sellers who are reputable, and if you can find a seller with details indicating that they are stationed in NY, Cali, Seattle, etc. it’s probably a safe bet.

Gaming laptops are a scam. I got a gaming laptop 6 months before spore came out and it was already too slow to run it on Max settings. Should always go for the big boy pc for anyone more serious than college level cad. Don't skimp on your motherboard or your CPU cooler

Or you could just educate yourself on components and what proper build quality is and not buy dog shit because it say "gaming pc" on it or has the gay lights in it. Spore was over 15 years ago, there's several companies selling pre built gaming PCs these days but alienware still sucks as they always have.

Yeah 8 gigs isn't shit, the 4k series is honestly kinda lame and the 5k series isn't much better. The amount of shit that comes with them makes doing 4K at higher FPS than my 3090ti seem waaay less appealing.
