Reading the OP and the first post after it I can't help but seethe at the amount of zero-effort-ESL around here. Can't tell if you learned the language solely from youtube and cartoon network or if you had some turbotrash English teacher in highschool but if you can't differentiate plural from singular words or think "would/could of" is a real thing you should probably fuck off to duolingo or something.
 
It was so surreal watching the dev team act like a hero shooter with lootboxes and a pastel cotton candy color scheme with a cast consisting of incredibly ugly masculine lesbians and troons was some kind innovative act of creative genius and not something so overdone and cliche it literally had it's own genre.

Rest in piss and learn to flip burgers.
 
What the fuck, when I saw this game's trailer I thought it was avant-garde parody and biting commentary on how out of touch the industry was.

Anyway, is there any videogame genre as financially cursed as the overwatch-clone? Is there a single successful one? (Including Overwatch)
 
It's at a point where they're just waiting for the new "big genre" to break out. People are tired of hero shooters, they're tired of battle royale, and they're tired of 5v5 competitive shooters. If you play them, there's probably a single one you play. This kind of thing happened back in the mid 2010s right before the battle royale genre hit it big. Overwatch was the big game to beat, and people were clamoring to try to get a piece of that pie. Most people either played Overwatch or didn't play hero shooters at all. It's the kind of environment ripe for a paradigm shift. Even the execs that have zero clue about what the average gamer wants, knows that there is a great need for something new, they just don't want to be the ones to put in the effort. It's way easier to commit thousands of dev hours and then pull the plug at the first sign of adversity.
 
Not even Overwatch 2 was good compared to Overwatch, what made anyone else think they could make a better Overwatch than the Overwatch devs?

Anyhoo, it's nearly October now, which means it's time to go visit TF2 in the nursing home. This is at least the 5th Hero Shooter/MOBA that it's outlasted.
 
On another internet forum, there's a saying about games like this joining the Lawbreakers club about a year after they are released. This is the first time that I've seen something born for it die in the womb this publicly.

I agree, but the executives at the top will keep milking this shit until the genre is toxic and dead. The same thing is happening in movies with superhero movies: the people at the top really don't care what is popular. They care about what makes money. That being said, this is why indie games (even with a lot of their flaws) tend to be more culturally relevant than AAA games: the devs have an ear to the ground to what's popular and have the creativity to create it.
 
Geez, this thing looks like a bastard love-child of the worst parts of Overwatch, Call of Duty and Lawbreakers, with absolutely nothing looking interesting or even slightly original about it. Hell, even the graphics look like they should be from 5 years ago or something.

Pretty fitting it got aborted within a month of being announced; maybe they can get ESG points saying they were simulating support for Planned Parenthood or something.
 
Weird feature post concerning the cancellation of a game nobody even heard of, but okay.

The "queer" California aesthetic certainly isn't new, but with the recent string of similar high-profile flops such as Saint's Row and Redfall, perhaps game publishers are going to take the hint and move away from that look.
 
I feel like the "we're so cool and mischievous" group dynamic died with the Saint's Row reboot. People still want to play as criminals but also do all this gay bullshit at the same time. Go big or go home, let players be pieces of shit, stop with this wannabe banksy stuff.
 
IMO a lot of these companies don't get that you can't just keep trying to appeal to the ResetEra market like everyone already tries to do. Overwatch 1 sold because men wanted to fuck Tracer and women wanted to fuck Soldier 76. Blizzard also were entering a market before it became saturated, not about 4 years after this whole thing became an old hat and could be placed in any year between 2015 to now.
 
Why do studios keep trying to force comp, it never works. Comp scenes are born from a shared love for a game that drives people to improve to the theoretical limit. (Also constant autistic level balancing discourages this kind of community from forming, but the game is built with comp in mind so they do this anyways)
The way I see this is just another wargroove to advance wars situation
