Also, remember, that there are only 2 major highways leading in and out of that area; I40 and I26. I26 is accessible from the south, but I40, the MAJOR route in and out of the mountains is completely impassable to the east and west. In some places, the highway is literally gone.

No, because logically a number calculated like that would have had to have started out on Thursday in the tens-to-hundreds of thousands and could only shrink as people are found alive or moved to the confirmed dead list and instead we have a number that started at zero and has grown. Everyone is assumed accounted for and safe unless the authorities have reason to think otherwise.

Sure, we should have zeppelin corps ready to go, but everything is fucked beyond belief.

Because everyone at all levels of the government except the very bottom local people are bureaucrats and paper pushers. The "Faggot in Charge of Helicopter Fuel" is unwilling to release any, because that would be on HIS head if someone higher up didn't like it.

While houston wasn't hit as bad, the entire city was without power during a horrid heatwave.

The government did jack shit to help, and the energy companies were embarrassed

But seeing my communities come together was good, people are closer than ever, and don't trust outsiders as much now

Sewing NC communities come together, and people teaching younger people how survive brings me hope. God speed you glorious bastards.
 
Still no power here. Lost phone internet access almost as soon as I got it. I think they're overwhelmed.

Local stores are open and packed with people looking for food. Went to a local discount store, and there was almost no canned food left. Thankfully, I am covered in that regard.

Still only able to charge devices while driving.

We're running patrols in our neck of the woods to dissuade looters and bandits. We've had to implement moderate fuel rationing so everyone gets a little something, and we've had to enforce it at gunpoint more than once already from outsiders who want to fill up a shitton of 5 gallon jerry cans.

I really wish I'd learned to ride a horse, because most of the farmers are loaning their horses and mules out for riding and hauling.

Where we are, the would-be looters seem to be either your typical uppity trailer trash hicks, or greedy niggers. We've seen some suspicious types coming into town every so often, but so far nothing's happened and I bet that's because the sight of a bunch of rednecks with ARs and AKs wearing body armor is a major deterrence to noggery. I'm guessing they might have wandered out of Ashville.
