This part of Florida doesn't get storms like this. In fact it's never gotten a storm like this. I bet they were of the mind, oh, it's just another Hurricane. As in a major rain event with some gusty winds.
Not a full blow monster steam plowing the ocean onto shore 5 miles inland while blasting enough wind to turn a piece of plywood into a missile.
