How to get my wife into anime? - Don’t want to scare her off.

Looking for recommendations for anime that appeals to older women. I want to start out with something that’s not too weird…

As the others said, try Ghibli stuff. Still didn't work with my girlfriend (apart from watching Sen to Chihiro and Ponyo with me, which she enjoyed), it's hard to get someone into anime who had zero prior contact with the medium.

Go back in time and pick another wife.

Two exes of mine were hardcore weebs, it's tiresome if they have pleb taste.

I was going to suggest weird shit like Cat Soup and Mind Game because they aren't really your regular anime but those are both are pretty emotional now that I think about it.

If your wife has taste then show her Akira or another classic anime before anime became retarded. Otherwise women are suckers for emotional male relationships(ie all the gay romance novels women buy) so you can pick anime where the male characters have totally-not-gay dynamics to them.

How about showing her the Beauty Parlor instead? Then you can be a true kiwi-couple

On a serious note, as someone who has wasted a lot of time trying to show women Cohen Brothers movies, I've noticed that by and large, women are compelled by stories in which people feel things, whereas men are compelled by stories in which people do things, and Cowboy Bebop is very much the latter and usually only implicitly the former.

Or, put another way, women are too dumb for masterpieces because they don't know why men do things unless it's spelled out for them.

Coboy beebop is very feels, tho. It's really unique in that way.
I always had the hunch it actually manages to alienates large chunks of the intended shonen audience with that. Fells very woman-compatible while still having action.

The way of the Household husband is probably a very good start. It's a comedy about a retired Yakuza trying to be a stay at home husband. If not, tamer stuff should work. I would recommend the classics that have been mentioned previously on this thread too.

But more important is what she's into? Does she want to watch a sappy romance? Does she like more invested fantasy? Something more grim on the level of a horror series?
Anime is just jap for cartoons, there are a ton of different genres within it. It has its staples but getting someone into it hinges much more on the viewer's personal tastes and their willingness to either read subtitles or listen to shitty voice acting.
