I made a friend by just honestly talking conspiracies and atlantis, typical smalltalk over work, Next I know he's inviting me to see his band live and now I'm familiar with the gig scene in my country. A lot of cool people. I'm not musical myself but just showing up and making your support known can really endear someone. I was invited to his wedding soon after that. Been friends for years now.

Important words to speak to any new person of interest. Shows you're interested in them, shows that you're not giving an empty gesture of "let's do something sometime", and puts the onus on them to say yes or no. It's how I've made adult friends/acquaintances, or how strangers interested in me have gotten to know me.

It's hard. It can lead to "no". It can lead to awkward lunch meetings. But I've never really gotten to know anyone as an adult without someone taking that leap.

Assuming you're 18-23 and have at least 1 friend, you have to use normgoid shit like Instagram or Snapchat to keep contact with people you know IRL. Whether it's your classmates from elementary school or some random guy, you just keep messaging them on these platforms and it doesn't need to be that important of a message either. I fucking hate using these platforms, but literally everyone seems to know each other on there.

Make connections with the purpose of knowing a person. Ultimately the relationship matters more than what you can get out of them. When people say "connections" it feels parasitic, at least to me, cause you're referring to somebody like theyre chattel. Never make connections with the purpose of trying to get something out of it, it'll not end well or you'll end up feeling like a selfish greedy prick if you have a conscience.

• Comes into your daily work-life area often. If you work remote, broaden your work-life area.
• Lives nearby with a similar family.

Good friends are ones you can fit into your life, not ones you have to change your life around. Good connections, people who can bring value to your life, are worth making time for. Also, I'm not doubting you are "busy" with a packed schedule, but honestly assess the hours in your day for the average week. If you're reading and posting here, you have free time.

Generally, be a nice person. Not a doormat, but a nice person. Like if you're a cool guy at church or your local community. People will come to you. That's actually how we get a lot of work in the company I started. We know a lot of people from our neighborhoods who are willing to. Give us a chance.

It kind of is, it depends on why you are networking for. The way you approach a client, possible mentor/mentee, partner, etc will vary.
Some connections are parasitic, and that's the only thing they should be, others are future friendships.
