So I watched this video just now (only the first half or so is relevant) and learned about the deep scattering layer:

Now we obviously do know the cause of it. But what's the solution? How do we get around this scattering so that we can see below this layer? Is it really just as simple as "more sensitive instruments" or is there some neat trick involved?
