I look at trip planning nowadays for the rare occasions that I travel, and it seems like most things suck.

The Fodors/etc books last I checked, and it's been years, like giving the same touristy stuff.

Blogs have been taken over by influencers who rank places judging by how much engagement you'll get from photos.

Wanderlog is an app but I swear it likes shoving in paid placements.

Reddit (ugh) has travel subreddits, which are bad enough. Even worse are the Discords, which have devolved into a bunch of people who know each other and get offended when you interrupt their conversation about how Trump is bad to ask what a good restaurant in the area is.

It's slop all the way down. I just wanna go on a trip and have fun.

I think if you're looking online and trying to pre-meditate it all you've lost the plot entirely. You should go to the place and not act like a tourist with your destination map and "todo list". You should just wander around, talk to people in the flesh, and live in the moment~*~*~
