How do we fix the U.N.? - Is it really UNfixable?

So as noted elsewhere, the UN has been viewed as useless and seems to make things worse. While its goals are noble it seems to have trouble achieving said goals. How do we fix it and make it less shit?

The U.N's intentions are to support the post-war power structure by acting as the "reasonable" opposition to states that challenge the status quo. It has "failed" only in the sense that nuclear proliferation has enabled some states to be put upon nearly equal footing with each other and the security council.
 
You can't fix something that just won't work.

The UN is a joke because it's the UN. It's like saying, I'm holding a turd, how do I make it a steak? This isn't saying this bridge is weak, how do I improve it. It's saying how do I get gold out of nail clippings.
 
It's near impossible for something like The UN to work, you really just can't be world Police without corruption, nepotism, and uselessness.
 
We have a long fucking history of how bad idea mass alliances like this are.
It's great when nations play nice and getting along but, Crimean war, 7 years war, WW1, WW2 all grew from isolated issues to massive battles due to playing butt buddies too closely?

So what do we do after ww2? Start the U.N.

Much like communism, it's ok there's a 8+ figure death count the idea is really nice sounding.
 
The UN is a hold over from the Cold War, it's not a real thing anymore. They just keep sending money to the bureaucrats and they keep showing up. Pay it no mind.
 
Easy fix. Build a time machine, go back to 1961, and save Dag Hammarskjold from boarding the plane in Congo. His successors really cucked up the UN.
 
The UN's greatest flaw is that it's built on the assumption that all countries and cultures are equally valid and civilized. They aren't. No sane organization would give the representative from Saudi Arabia leadership on the human rights council, or give them a platform of any kind. Their solutions are, as a result, retarded. They think if they send enough money and food to Somalia that one day they'll be on the same level as Europe. The fact is that no amount of money or food will change the reality that Somalia is populated by sub-70 IQ savages and ruled by corrupt warlords. Just let them murder each other and wallow in their own piss, or if you really want to make their country better bring back proper colonialism.
