Jay seems to smoke the progressive peace pipe, but he has a few good recommendations from time to time. I had a feeling that this documentary would skew into personal rants instead of actual spotlights of interesting black characters in the horror genre. A lot of documentaries as of late such as the ones covering Alien and Showgirls are viewed through a feminist lens and the actual movies take a backseat to the creator and others coming up with their own interpretations.
I have another theory about why this has become an enduring movie trope: primarily white audiences are more likely to feel bad about a black character dying than a white character.
There's that, but even more so it is basically not a real thing in horror movies and virtually never happened. If the black guy is the protagonist's funny best friend, he's probably screwed, but otherwise he's in no more trouble than anyone else. Black men also probably outnumber black women 10:1 in horror movies, whatever you want to make of that.
