Browsing through the threads, I noticed that there isn't anything for home remedies.
In this case what I mean is "folk knowledge", things you learn by being near people who've done things for a long time. It usually involves using some relatively abundant resource for an uncommon purpose. Most commonly this is in regard to treating mild ailments, but could be anything.

I'll post a few examples of common ones:
- all parts of dandelions are edible (and aside from the puffball, they don't taste too bad either)
- putting baking soda in the oven at 350F for 30 minutes turns it into a powerful detergent that can be used on white/light color clothes in a pinch.
- if you have a drain clogged by fat, grease, or oil, a dilute lye mixture can abate the clog

-Expensive batteries can be saved by only putting them into your clock when you want to know the time.

-By getting old, unwanted telephone directories, and then simply crossing out the names of people you don't know, you can begin keeping a diary.

- All parts of your body are edible.

-"Ultimate" burrito.

-Use greywater saved in your tub to flush your toilets. Then use that water for brushing teeth and farming tilapia.

Goldenseal is a magic hippie herb that can be used to treat any ailment, internal or topical. I was raised on that stuff.

Make a shower 'to-go' by simply putting a little bodywash in water and freezing it! So easy and refreshing!

Drink more water. Most people are severely dehydrated.
Ginger is a good thing to keep around. It has a lot of good properties. You can use it as an expectorant. You can use it as an anti-inflammatory. It's good for upset stomachs.
Ginger and honey is also a very good thing for treating colds. And coughs.

Ginseng wound. It's a bit expensive, but it's actually very good for a lot of things. There's actually some merit to Chinese herbal medicine, but do your research.

If you have rubbing alcohol and you're about to. Throw up sniff the rubbing alcohol in a completely and utterly negates the feeling. I like to keep alcohol wipes next to my bed just for this reason. There's no we on long term side effects.

Yellow root grows all over America and it's a very good treatment for fever and other such things.

Prune juice is a very good. Natural laxative that doesn't fuck up your body as much as. Other things if your constipated. Constipation can kill you very easily.

Lord is actually a very good thing to prevent foot rot. If you're working in wet environments.

How did it work? no infection?
Basically. The wound was a linear, but somewhat gaping cut that I didn't bother putting anything on to protect it, so it got infected (probably relatively mildly). I didn't want to have to go out and buy anything for it (or, God forbid, go to a doctor), so I did some googling and read that honey was good for such things. Somewhat skeptically, I covered the entire wound opening with a layer of cheap honey I had in my cupboard. I don't remember if I covered it with any bandaging or just left it exposed to the air (it's been a long while since this happened), but after a couple of days, the infection cleared completely and the wound itself started healing pretty quickly. I was honestly really impressed. So now honey is basically magic to me. I don't know if it would work on really big wounds or really severed infections.

  • Honey to sooth a cough- The thick sugary material helps to sooth the throat, like how cough drops often don't even have an active ingredient they're just sugar tablets
  • I've found that stuff with a strong mint flavor can help someone stay awake
  • Hangover cure- Tuna sandwich with lemonade

you have to be careful when you clean your ears with hydrogen peroxide, if you lay on your side so it stays in the broken down crap goes deeper into your ear and HOPEFULLY you get it out, and soaking your ear hairs that let you hear in something that fries hair is probably not a great plan
when you clean your ears with hydrogen peroxide soak a qtip in it then tilt your head down and the scrub it out immediately afterwards with many clean tips
