Is there really a need to celebrate and acknowledge every little object, or issue brought upon by society no matter how miniscule it's impact is? Everything from doughnuts, cell phones, sexuality, and any other object used without a second thought is graced and hyped like the second coming of Christ. Why the need to celebrate mediocrity.?

Any thoughts?

Funny you bring this up when today is #MayTheFourthBeWithYou

But I agree, while we're at it, let's get rid of a few "major" holidays that are meaningless as well, like Valentines Day.
What do you have against love? If we're getting rid of any holiday then it needs to be St. Patrick's day. It's gaudy and nobody who celebrates it is anywhere close to Irish anyway.

What do you have against love?

Absolutely nothing. I just find it dumb that if you're in a relationship, why do you need ONE SPECIAL day to tell your significant other that you love them and to express that love when you have the other 364 days to do just that?

Valentines Day is nothing more than a marketing scheme for people (mostly men) to shell out money for woman. The actual title of the holiday should be "Women Get Free Shit" day.

While I concur that centering too much of a committed relationship around Valentine's day is unhealthy, I also must raise the point of it being a day which is great for singles as well. Nothing brings people together like the kind of reminder Valentine's day gives of warmth and comfort in the tail end of an exhausting and lonely winter.

Because the masses are told that if you buy this brand you'll be happier, if you get this treatment you'll look better, if you follow this trend you'll feel better about yourself. All of these are hollow, just like the material objects and fake fame we are told to "desire" and "need". It's to breakdown what actually makes humans happy in order to turn us into good little consoomers and waste our precious time on things that mean NOTHING and bring NOTHING. To fill that never ending hole in one's soul. That's why we "celebrate" mediocrity, because that's how we, as a society, come to see ourselves as. Mediocre.

The only holidays I really do anything major on is Thanksgiving and Christmas. Might have a cookout on the Fourth of July, but I just can't be bothered to really care about any other holiday.

As for people needing to make holidays and celebrate media, brands, genderspecial bullshit, soap, bags of flour, whatever. Let 'em act like tards, doesn't affect me.
