What do other kiwis think about the theory of historical materialism.
It is the theory that a societies mode of production fundamentally determines everything in the society and its evolution.
I would say that it seems to be a theory with a great deal of merit despite being an anticommunist

I don't put much stock into such silliness, like that or the Labor Theory of Value and other orthodox Marxist ideas that were debunked 100 years ago when they were tried in the real world and fell flat.

Historical materialism makes sense, it's just that Marx's predicted direction after industrial capitalism didn't come to fruition and most likely never will. Is industrial capitalism the true end of the historical materialism cycle, or is there something else beyond that?

I'm saying this as someone whose eyes glaze over whenever someone says "labor theory of value."

I assume you're referring to Bolshevism, which differs from classical Marxism in many respects.

Anyway, I think that historical materialism is the most reliable theory of history out there, as it deals primarily with economic factors, which can quantified, rather than ideological psychological factors, which are a great deal more difficult to measure.
