After WWII, the Republic of Baden and the Free People's State of Württemberg were split into the short-lived states of Baden, Württemberg-Baden and Württemberg-Hohenzollern. Those states existed from 1947 to 1952, when they were merged into the modern state of Baden-Württemberg.

Philipp Scheidemann proclaims the German Republic.

On November 9th, 1918 and amidst heavy protests, the German chancellor Max von Baden declared that the Kaiser had abdicated (without the Kaiser's consent) and stepped down in favor of Friedrich Ebert, the leader of the Social Democratic Party (SPD). During lunch that day, Scheidemann, also a member of the SPD and part of the government, learned that the communist leader Karl Liebknecht was planning to use the chaos to proclaim a Soviet Republic. To beat the socialists to it, Scheidemann rushed to the window and proclaimed the Kaiser's abdication and the formation of the German Republic to the crowd.

Last picture ever taken of Otto von Bismarck.

Otto von Bismarck, the infamous Iron Chancellor and the man chiefly responsible for the creation of the German Empire, died on July 30th, 1898. Human trash that they are, two journalists who got wind of the former chancellor's death, broke into his bedroom, adjusted the position of the pillow so his head was better visible, then took a photograph of the body.

The two photographers, Willy Wilcke and Max Christian Priester, were later arrested and sent to prison for trespassing.

Ebert wanted to have the assembly to vote on what form of goverment they were going to have.
He said "You have no right to proclaim the Republic!" to him.

If that's true I've never heard of it, I'd love a source.

Edit: I did some cursory reading and, apparently, Ebert first wanted to keep the Kaiser on the throne. If that's true I could see him being upset with Scheidemann.
