Law High school locked down, arrest made after infamous ex-NFLer makes threats - Haha holy shit what

This is absolutely hilarious if you follow sports, and it's still pretty damn great even if you don't. This may have been already posted in the Florida school shooting thread, but fuck it, this deserves its own shit.

tl;dr:
>NFL player (Martin) comes out a few years ago and complains that a couple of his teammates are bullying and harassing him (it's way more complicated than that, but you get the idea)
>Martin quits team because his feelings were hurt
>NFL opens an investigation because they didn't want bad press
>gives one of the "bullies" an eight game suspension for the same reason, claim he created a "hostile working environment"
>Martin washed out of the league, "bullies" went on to play many more years
>five years later, Martin posts an Instagram of a shotgun and ammunition, tags some of the bullies as well as his fucking high school (dude is twenty-eight years old)
>gets arrested

Former Miami Dolphins offensive lineman Jonathan Martin was detained for questioning in Los Angeles as a result of a threatening image posted on social media and has been released, a spokesman for the Los Angeles Police Department said.

USA Today reported that Martin was detained at a Los Angeles-area medical facility where he went to seek treatment Friday. Martin was trying to check himself into the hospital, the paper reported.

"The individual we believe responsible for the social media post in question has been detained and our investigation is ongoing," the Los Angeles Police Department said in a statement, later adding that he had been released.

ABC News confirmed that Martin was the man detained by police.

It is unknown whether the Instagram account is Martin's account or if he posted the image.

The image on the Instagram account said: "When you're a bully victim & a coward, your options are suicide, or revenge." The image showed a shotgun, ammunition and tagged four accounts, including those belonging to former Miami teammates Richie Incognito and Mike Pouncey. It also included hashtags for Harvard-Westlake, where he went to high school, and the Miami Dolphins.

Another person tagged was James Dunleavy. Martin went to Harvard-Westlake with a James Dunleavy who was the son of former NBA coach Mike Dunleavy and went on to play basketball at USC.

Martin accused Incognito and Pouncey of bullying him in 2013 when they were teammates in Miami, which resulted in an NFL investigation. The investigation found that Icognito, Pouncey and John Jerry created a hostile working environment for Martin, who left the team in the middle of the season.

Incognito was suspended for eight games by the NFL because of the investigation.

Martin hasn't played in the NFL since 2015. Weeks after retiring, Martin posted a lengthy message on Facebook explaining that he suffered from depression and had tried to kill himself on multiple occasions.

Harvard-Westlake, an elite private school in Los Angeles, closed Friday morning in response to the post, but police told ESPN there was no direct threat to the school.

According to a source, the Dolphins security director reached out to the league to make them aware of the post. Pouncey was also made aware.

ESPN's Jenna Laine and Mike Rodak contributed to this report.

It's probably a good thing this guy isn't that smart. But on the flip side if you're bullying someone, you're not doing it to "toughen them up," you're just a cunt.

Was he really even bullied, though? Or was he just a gigantic pussy?

It really sounds like even if he was getting bullied, it was because he was a complete asshole.

A team mate making death threats to him and his family is just bants.

Why did that happen, though? What was the context? When someone out there is acting like this guy is, I really tend not to take his factual claims all that seriously.

He seems like the kind of guy who dishes it out but can't take it.

Now if the guy did that completely without provocation, or without sufficient provocation, he's an asshole, too, but he's not the guy threatening to shoot up some school.

We don't know the full story but this guy seems like an upstanding fellow. Really who knows though, society seems to be catering to pussification more than before.

Whatever the case is he's a fool for posting threats like that especially so soon after Parkland. I hated school too but not that much.

Martin went after all the other o-linemen and the coach. Nobody on the team backed him up. He was liked about as well as Ryan Leaf in the lockerroom. But instead of the media calling him out on his bullshit, they backed him up because of "bullying". They especially tried to play up the racial angle.

After the dust settled and he washed out of the league it all came out that he was a pampered snowflake from an upper-middle class family and basically a big pussy who couldn't handle the increased demands and competition of the pros. They didn't kiss his ass because he was a gigantic person who could play left tackle on raw talent anymore (the shit technique and lack of coaching needed to run collegiate-level spread offenses is well known). He had to actually be good at it and take direction from coaches and senior teammates. He didn't like that. They told him to man the fuck up and called him a pussy nigger faggot when he bitched. And here we are.

I get pretty skeptical of people's claims of bullying when somehow, no matter where they go, they get bullied. I begin to suspect it's something they're doing.

Now if he were obviously disabled or deformed or something, I'd think it was just a picking on the weak thing, but this guy is a hulking jock.

On October 30, 2013, it was reported that Martin had left team facilities two days earlier, citing "emotional" reasons. It was initially reported that he had been mistreated by some teammates during lunch that day when they asked him to sit with them, but then promptly got up and left the table when he sat down.[20][21] Martin was subsequently listed on the injury report with an unspecified injury and missed the Dolphins' game on October 31.[22] It was later reported that during this period Martin had briefly checked into a hospital for emotional distress before flying to his parents' home in California, where he is "preparing a detailed document for his cooperation with a league investigation into a string of alleged multiple incidents he says led to his emotional distress and exit from the team".[23][24]

On November 2, it was reported that Richie Incognito's ring-leading role in the harassment of Martin dating as far back as the 2012 season was being reviewed by the NFL Players Association.[25] On November 3, Incognito was suspended by the Dolphins for "conduct detrimental to the team."[26] The next day, it was reported that Incognito had sent numerous texts and voicemails making threats against Martin and Martin's family.[27][28][29][30][31]

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the most egregious of these exchanges was a highly graphic voicemail Incognito left in April 2013, in which Incognito called Martin a "half-nigger piece of shit," threatened to slap Martin's mother across the face and even uttered a death threat against Martin. Until obtaining the tape from Martin's legal team, the Dolphins had publicly maintained the charges against Incognito were pure speculation. Schefter said that as late as the afternoon of November 3, the Dolphins didn't even know the voicemail existed. However, within hours of hearing the tape, Incognito had been suspended.[32] On November 5, the Sun-Sentinel reported that the message that ultimately led to Incognito's suspension was made after Martin missed two days of the team's voluntary workout program. The coaches asked Incognito to help "toughen up" Martin and "get him into the fold".[33]

On November 11, a source close to Martin told ESPN's Lisa Salters that Martin was not willing to play for the Dolphins again, and planned to sit out the remainder of the 2013 season, which he did.[34] In February 2014, a 144-page report by Ted Wells—an attorney hired by the NFL to investigate the scandal—found that Incognito and fellow linemen John Jerry and Mike Pouncey “engaged in a pattern of harassment” toward Martin, another offensive lineman, and an assistant trainer.[35]

He seems like the kind of guy who dishes it out but can't take it.

The Dolphins finished that season with an 8-8 record and failed to make the playoffs. It seems that they are the ones dishing out bullying but can't actually do their jobs.

I don't have a problem with bullying pro sports players to perform better. But bullying fringe players when you're a shit team is just a cunt move.

Okay. It seems like pretty much everyone involved in this whole thing was a dick.

Point taken, maybe he refuses to listen to good advice? I had a friend like that and now I hang out with HIS former best friend. He still has this "I want to be a jock and hang out with the cool kids" thing at 31. He's certainly a lolcow of sorts.
