I posted this in the Kiwi Artist group but didn't see any replies, so I'm going to try here.
Basically I'm in a rut. I have art block, I feel like my art could be better than it is even with my steady improvement. I feel like I have some potential that I haven't unlocked and I was wondering if any of my scribbling Kiwi buddies have some advice as to how I can make substantial improvement beyond practice alone.
Well, I write every now and then, so it's not visual art, but I find that when my brain refuses to gear up, doing some menial task helps. Like washing dishes or cleaning the house. Listening to music helps too. I guess it depends on the person.
I suggest trying a completely different style. I had an awful art block a year ago-- then I started messing around with digital painting. It was SUPER challenging and gave me the drive to draw again.
Have you been drawing the same things over and over? I find that easy to do as a cartoonist. I find that it can bore your brain and make drawing hard to jump into if you're just going to draw the same style/characters/ect. The brain likes to be excited by new things.

Yeah, I've noticed a lot of stagnation in terms of my subject matter. That was my main issue, but at the same time it feels little hard to break out, you know?
I'm workin onnit though Thanks so much for the advice.
