Do people use basil for anything other than tomato dishes?
I've never seen it used anywhere else

Also buying a huge thing of tomatoes in the summer and making a shit load of sauce and freezing it is awesome. I added ground chicken and turkey (when I ran out of chicken) so with pasta it's a complete meal. The fresh tomatoes really do make a difference. Also do yourself a favor and cook it in the crockpot so you don't have to babysit it

Unless you live in the taste-deficient North of England, the secret to improving any dish is a good seasoning. What are your preferences? Is home-grown better than store bought? Why do white people think that salt counts as seasoning?
Depends on the meal or my mood. For chilis I like a mix of garlic powder, paprika, and cumin. For chicken, I like curry mixes, cayenne pepper, garlic powder, or for a milder chicken rosemary instead of curry mix and cayenne pepper. I do occasionally make old-bay fries as well.

Salt and pepper are just assumed to always be in a dish since I think you have to be a bit of a maniac to not have that shit in your dish naturally.

Personally I just put chili flakes in/on just about everything because that' s the shit.
Not as good as garlic though.

€: When I was in Italy I bought garlic/pepperoni/chili oil and that stuff was amazing. Put it on garlic bread before baking for extra flavour and it was great! A few drops of it on pasta with a bit pesto made a really tasty dish as well.
