I know there was gonna be a Hellsing TV series from Amazon, with the guy who made John Wick behind the wheel. But that shit went silent for two years now. There was also a cancelled Hellsing movie staring Mila "I have a huge ass ego" Jovavich playing as Seras and the movie was gonna be all about her.

My only complaint is I wanted to see more of the world and the justification for using alucard as a weapon. Like we know there's more then just Nazis, with the wolfman. Did alucard fight Cthulhu and shit?

The TV series ironically scratches a little bit of that itch.
yeah Hellsing is something I wouldn't mind a few extra filler arcs of them vs a nessie or a big foot or a mothman or whatever horror/xfiles

A bit surprised at how much people don't like Hellsing 2001 in this thread, but then again Chiaki tends to be pretty polarizing so I suppose it makes sense. I do think the first half was very solid but it got pretty meandering at the end (especially the final antagonist who was kind of cool design wise but also incredibly random) especially with how intense the canon script for the final arc was, no Major or final Anderson fight is a serious dampener even knowing the direction the show is trying to go with. Its the kind of thing you'll like if you like Chiaki's style of work and hate if you can't stand them,

Anyway even if I liked it I'd also agree and still say people should read the manga for the definitive hellsing experience (even over watching hellsing ultimate, Madhouse made it faithful but I've never really felt like it served as a preferential experience to the manga). Very fun and novel for its time, Alucard is easily one of the coolest characters to come out of the 90s seinen comic industry.

This was what hellsing: the dawn was probably supposed to be for the most part, but Kouta is either incredibly lazy (or more likely was uninterested with the direction he had for it) and its been on hiatus for almost two decades now, though he did start working on drifters again this year after a 4 year hiatus, so who knows if he goes back to do anything with it, but I haven't looked up if he's really commented on the insanely long break either, so I'm just assuming he's no longer interested.
The guidebook might have some more information on the setting and characters too, but its Japan only so no easy export (and no unofficial translation either).
Though I've seen and read all the Hellsing stuff, what I most associate it with is capturing the Team Four Star guys disappearing further up their own asses with each Abridged episode.
The HUA series sucks, primarily because at its best (funniest) it was mostly pointless (the entire Valentine brothers episode script is basically a paraphrased version of the original script for one), and at its worst with the last few episodes it was half-baked millennial writing melodrama, not horrific, but just very mid and pointless.

One fun thing I wanna point out about the Major: I believe on one of the art pieces from the manga one of the ribbons he has on his SS uniform was an award given to soldiers who took part in hand to hand combat. How he even got such award is anyone's guess.

Hellsing is the superior Castlevania anime Netflix wished it made.

Funny thing, the guy was also responsible for 2nd Season of Big O where the serious got pretentious
I love Big O and everytime I think I'm about to grasp what is happening in the climax that final episode just fucks me up.

Had to get up close and personal all the time since he was clearly not much of a marksman.

I didn't know Chiaki worked on the Hellsing TV show when I watched it, and I like the man's work for the most part--but I was disappointed by the end of the show since it just ends rather abruptly, and I know it started meandering sometime after the halfway point. Was a shame, really.

I should do a rewatch now that I have the DVDs and Ultimate on Blu-Ray. Just want to finish the manga first before I do (I'm lazy lol).

An he still gets slapped like a bitch, specially when an old Nazi geezer can kick his ass.

Edit: Also, the trailer for that cancelled Hellsing movie.

Última edición:
One thing I liked about the Hellsing TV show was some of the filler showing unique missions the organization took on. Gave police woman some actual police work to do too.

The manga and Ultimate pretty much get straight to the point with the nazi vampire forever war plot after volume one/ova one being mostly set up. It's all cool but can become a bit exhausting during the battle of London at the end since its pretty much five straight volumes/episodes of war.

This is a big reason why I love it so much, the filler episodes were actually good and gave Seras more fleshing out.
An all that fleshing out amounted to her being whiny as hell.

Side thing and this is probably will be a nitpick. But one thing that really grinded my gears with Ultimate is the accent for the Major. Okay, to explain better: When hes talking to Integra in English, makes sense for the accent to be there. But why the fuck does he have an accent, when hes adressing his own German troops in German, we know its German its just translated. So, he should he talking without an accent.

Imagine thinking all Germans sound homogenous to each other.

Ultimate is great. I tried to watch the ‘01 version but it’s a bit slow.

Abridged is good but man I hate that people can’t even talk about Ultimate without mentioning Abridged. And I completely lost respect for TFS when they decided to apologize for the Twilight joke from the first episode. Virtue signaling fucks.

I would bet money it was because Rinsey Erris came out with that bullshit "Twilight was only made fun of because it was for girls!" video she made a few months earlier.

Speaking of, I'm just as annoyed about their whiny handwringing about how they characterized Rip van Winkle.

I was more annoyed with them fucking up The Major and Walter stuff if anything.

I honestly like the art direction, it definitely has that comic book vibe that Hirano Kohta was going for in the manga.

Speaking of, legit, if you've only seen the anime, you owe it to yourself to read how Kohta truly envisioned it. Yes, Ultimate ultimately is the way to experience it because of how it's presented, however, it is thanks to Kohta's visionary that it flowed as well on-screen. There's some legit cinematic paneling throughout the manga and the characters are much more striking in black-and-white, and you can just see the raw batshit insanity the mangaka pulled from his brain (when he felt like it that day). Even the English translation had fun with how to portray accents with various characters, it's probably the closest to your typical Western comic book you'll see out of Japan, and you could honestly breeze through a volume in less than an hour if you want the action to move fast.
Ah fuck it, you got me to buy the physical mangas. Both the anime and Ultimate are peak and I already have the blurays for Ultimate, but somehow I never got around to reading the manga before.

I tend to read things digitally then eventually buy the volumes when I can if I really really like the manga, but this will be the first time I'm getting the printed volumes from the start.
