I get Hollywood is devoid of original thought but there has to be some other comic book property that exists outside of Marvel and DC, right?

still popular enough that normies remember "that one movie they saw", while being inoffensive with enough edge and being "dark" to not scare them off.

there are other properties of course, but what alternative is there really (and big enough to try their luck with for a feature length movie and not abuse it on some streaming service)?.

The same way Amazon thinks Tomb Raider is THIS popular to have it rebooted for a TV series and another movie with a different actress. Both of them lost relevance since the late 2000s, yet there are fans who will still support the two and act as if they've never changed. Typical fanboy/machild/consoomer behavior.

God damn I just tell people to read the comics: the art is dark but the stories aren’t edgy. Simple but not stupid. The fucking movies were so dumb.

Yes Guillermo del Toro makes pretty movies but the way they handled the plot and characters was… ugh

Why do they always make Hellboy into some goofy meathead moron?

MGM's current owner Amazon just could not let it go. Plus, there is a Netflix anime series still in the works, but no announcement, so it's probably as good as dead. Seriously, they need to let the franchise die. It stopped being good after the 2000s.

It was kinda wild how it had a deep connection to topcow comics like witchblade and the darkness for a little while

There's loads of comic book properties they're making movies/shows out of. The less known ones are easiest to do constant reboots of because they have a smaller fanbase who are going to shriek in an outraged fashion online. Most people don't realise they were comic books beforehand because they don't know shit outside of DC/Marvel. Even some of the more obscure stuff they do isn't always obvious.

I'm guilty of that. The film Red for example I didn't know was a comic book originally.
 
I get they want to do a more low budget follow up but it looks "too" cheap and some shots just look ai generated.
 
I know that Ron Pearlman has completely lost his marbles over the years ... But he was a fantastic Hellboy. Guillermo del Toro's vision for those two movies was so delightful; they were made in the 2000's, but the incorporation of practical effects made them feel like they could have been easily made in the 80s.

Such a shame that Hellboy 2 flopped. Poor movie never stood a chance being released the same time as The Dark Knight. lol.

Never saw the 2019 movie since everybody said it was a train wreck.

All of that said, I didn't hate this new trailer? Actually looks like this movie is trying to follow the source material ...
 
Big difference of being cheap and looking cheap, stuff like X and Pearl had a budget of $1million and look far better, willing to bet this has a budget much higher than those. Could maybe make it look better in post somewhat, with a good colour grade and transferring the digital master to a 35mm print then back again, but that shit costs money I doubt they want to spend.

Also, Ketchup Entertainment is the worst name I've heard for a production company.
 
Shame that the Crooked Man storyline in the comic is a real creepfest, but from the looks of this, it could have been adapted better.

Though nothing in the film could probably compare to the Crooked Man as illustrated by Richard Corben

I do wonder how this’ll be handled, you’d need some really good prosthetics to capture this look. Side note, what if they were trying to do some crossover-synergy bullshit and ended up using the Crooked Man from The Conjuring? That’d be mildly interesting haha
