I might disagree on certain things with Moore and at times i have expressed (despite not doing as well as i could) that his opinion can be be often taken as the final words on certain things related to comic but i read that first quote and i think i see things his way, there really should have been no adaptation of his work (the gameplay in the game was fun but it overall felt like the franchise was tacked on yet it was one of the completletly awful noN-Moore part of his work unlike the Prequel comics, the film or Doomsday Clock)
Even Moore thinks he went to far in places in Watchmen

Granted it's been years since I've read the original comic but I don't remember Rorschach being racist, an edgy social darwinist maybe but not racist.

Why would a Neo Nazi cult worship Rorschach?

Shouldn't they dress up like Captain Metropolis since in the comic it was implied he said racist things about blacks and Hispanics?

They'd never dress as a homosexual bottom bitch sub. Lol.

Did anyone see the new files they released?
Apparently Laurie kept superheroing with Nite Owl. She took her dad's name and joined the FBI. Obviously I imagine we'll see what she's been up to before she was called on the Don Johnson case.
Also you can see Jean in the preview at a store/hotel?? Getting taken hostage?

Ok so I watched it and I've had a slight change of heart. It's still bad but it's so unbelievably awful I think it might get a cult following for being bad like Plan 9 or the room. At one point the black anti cop hero lady goes " I can smell white supremacy and he smells like a bitch."

The rest of it is just as ridiculous and lulz worthy.

Look closely during the scene where Captain Metropolis is trying to set up the Crimebusters. On the board there's stuff like "black unrest" or something to the effect of him disagreeing with the Civil Rights Movement.
Oh ok so i looked back through my copy of the book and yeah I definitely misremembered. I guess it was because Hooded Justice looks a bit like a Klansmen

On one hand, I think you misheard slightly; on the other hand, the actual dialogue is somehow even more cringeworthy.

Making Rorschach's "disciples" white racists is pretty fucking funny considering what actually happened in the comics...

The New Frontiersman was a paper that was deemed "Right Wing" and "full of conspiracy theories." Think of InfoWars. The comic book never called it racist or white supremacist (at least I'm fairly certain?).
It was Info Wars mixed in with the Daily Stormer. Moore intended for the Frontiersman to be a stereotypical right wing rag from a leftist perspective, because Moore is very left wing.

Rorschach is never explicitly racist. He was a misanthrope through and through, race was never shown to be a factor for him.

Also his only friend is jewish.

I wouldn't necessarily call this "Daily Stormer" levels. I'd definitely call it "Christian Right/Red Scare reactionary propaganda." I see no mentions of a white enthnostate, though.

Nixon winning election after election in the comics is the result of these reactionary people being so scared of the Russians dropping an A-bomb that they are unaware about how they are surrendering their freedoms for a false sense of security/safety. At least that's how I've been interpreting the story for all of these years. To me, it fits the ultimate themes of Watchmen about irony and hypocrisy that are oh-so-apparent with our political beliefs/alignments ... That people are a fucking mess. lol.

I have zero doubts that Moore is very left leaning (which isn't a problem in of itself, don't get me wrong). However, he's an extremely self-aware guy. If he were just a run-of-the-mill modern day reactionary Leftist, he'd approve of this new series. Moore has always humanized every type of person on the political spectrum; there was even nuance in the V For Vendetta comic, where he portrayed the actual fascists as regular people/individuals. Moore is a guy who isn't afraid to "go there" with his characters who have a wide diversity of beliefs and morals. That's why he's such a great writer. For example, he somehow successfully made the Comedian (of all characters) somewhat sympathetic ... Even though he's guilty of attempted rape, raping and impregnating at least one Vietnamese woman, shooting that same woman between the eyes point blank, and most likely being THE guy who assassinated JFK. Moore never excuses Blake's evil deeds ... But he made damn sure that we understood what he was about-- to the point where we're a little sympathetic towards him when we find out why he was murdered.

I'm not here to defend Rorschach in the sense that "he's a hero, so he can do no wrong whatsoever!" No. Rorschach was an anti-hero AT BEST. He was an overtly violent, tragic, and mentally damaged nihilist. I just don't see any logic behind making his "followers" white supremacists, other than the showrunners hamfisting political themes that are convenient and lazy these days.

There also this article about defending the KKK but yeah it was mostly a red scare newspaper.

Whats funny is that Moore intended for Rorschach to be fairly repugnant, but still made him a deeply sympathetic character through his moralism and tragedy. Moore isn’t a hack, he can and does treat the characters he writes with respect. He understands the humanity that underlies even deeply reprehensible people like Veidt, Blake, or Rorschach.

The show would honestly have to be willing to show white supremacist terrorists in some sort of sympathetic or nuanced light in order to reach similar heights. Which is just not going to happen, because politics aside thats a massive task for any writer to take up.

I can't bring myself to watch it. I haven't even seen trailers. I loved the movie though.

It's not perfect but I thought the movie was still really good, I never understood why it got such a cold reception and seems mostly forgotten today.

Is that where that Onion guy got the idea for a crying lady liberty?

It's refreshing to see left wing satire of the right wing that's actually funny and not cringey.

I thought it was really interesting how he painted the leader of Norsefire as lonely and kind of pathetic.
