Rorschach isn't an incel. He has no time for relationships of any kind because he's so obsessively focused in fighting crime above all else to the point where he suffers mentally and neglects his hygiene. Night Owl alludes to this when he says Rorschach doesn't have friends only allies.

I wouldn't ever call him an incel since that'd imply he wants any kind of sex/romantic relationship, and like you said that's of no importance since he's obsessed with his work as a vigilante. I always figured his crime-fighting fixation and his dislike in anything sexual (like the frequent image of two lovers' shadows by his apartment, with Dan and Laurie at the end of the comic, and the shadows of his mom fucking a john) came from that AND the shit surrounding his childhood
 
I saw this thread update and was horrified at the prospect of this shitheap getting a revival. Imagine my relief.

Yeah, Rorschach is pretty solidly anti-sex due to his childhood trauma (probably reinforced by interaction with pedophiles and the like) so calling him asexual would be technically correct. But that really undersells what's going on here: "asexual" isn't some label he applies for Tumblr asspats, or so he can feel like part of a "community," it's deep-seated psychological damage that leaves him broken and alone- this is not an enviable condition.
 
I see there's some controversy in the thread over the comic ending vs book ending and I'd like toss my 2 cents in.

When I first read the comic and the giant squid came up my reaction was "ok." I thought it was way out of left field, really stupid and incredibly dated because (mistakenly) a lot of people were regurgitating the same point of "bruh, the squid is there to dunk on golden age comics being stupid lol" which didn't jive with me because if you're being shit on purpose to make fun of other shit, you're still shit, but it didn't really cause any plotholes and while incredibly fucking dumb, it technically did make sense so it didn't make me think that much less of the comic.

Then I saw the movie and I thought that the manhattan ending made MUCH more sense and felt way more plausible and while maintaining the verisimilitude of the story far better than a squid (because manhattan working with ozy was set up from like the first few minutes and reinforced over and over) so I liked it a lot more.

After thinking about it for a while though and reading what people have to say here, I'm begrudgingly going to have to side with the squid ending.

Yeah its completely retarded and out left field, but it works while the manhattan ending doesn't for several reasons:

1.) It creates an extremely sharp contrast with the rest of the story putting all the dark and gritty elements into far greater focus.

2.) Manhattan IS an american element while the squid is totally alien. Framing manhattan has a 50-50 chance to backfire and make the rest of the world blow back on america kickstarting the nuclear war that ozy wanted to avert.

3.) Without the squid there's no explenation for how or why the comedian goes insane (or even why ozy wants him dead). The movie doesn't even attempt to adress this, which in hindsight leaves a bit of a sour taste in my mouth (but I still think its the best comic book adaptation of all time, and the second best book adaptation of all time after lord of the rings)

The comedian is such an important character because he's the greek chorus of watchmen: "Its all a big fucking joke."

He's there to highlight the absurdity of the human race progressing so far, but somehow bringing its own end by wiping itself out with nukes and the squid is just the cherry ontop of the inherent absurdity of the very concept of nuclear war itself.

"Three hundred thousand years of human progress being wiped at the push of a button because two assholes couldn't get along makes perfect sense, but a giant squid falling from the sky is somehow too absurd and unrealistic?"

tl;dr

Yeah the squid is fucking retarded, but the human race wiping tself out with nuclear war is also kinda fucking retarded, which is the whole point of the comic, so it fits.
 
I read the graphic novel recently, absolutely loved it but I have no interest in watching this shit.

Are the Before Watchmen prequel comics worth taking a look at? I'd definitely like to check out the Nite Owl I and the Minutmen issues.

Edit: On the comic book ending, a big part of Ozy's plan was that the threat needed to be otherworldy to force peace between the superpowers for fear of an even greater threat i.e. giant alien attack. An explosion like in the movie has too many other plausible explanations to be foolproof.

My big issue was how the creation of the squid and Ozy's bioengineering work was completely glossed over. Apparantly all he needed was a group of artists and scientists on a private island to create it? You would imagine such a fantastical take on biology and monsters would at least have wider ramifications on the world. If it was explained better or there was some supporting occurances in the story like strange mutants or animals (aside from his cat) or maybe even an associated hero who recieved freakish abilities or appearance through the same avenues then I'd have an easier time buying it.

Also how the hell did he give numerous people cancer unbeknownst to them?

They by a different author and most of them are just standard capeshit. If you want more watchmen don't read them, if you want capeshit starring watchmen characters feel free to.

except for the rorsach comedian by brain Azzarello. The comedian is basically brian trying to be garth ennis when he writes frank castle or nick fury in vietnam. The roarsach one is trying way to hard to be taxi driver but its better than tom king's take on the character at least.

Its like Mike from RLM said about the new star trek shows, the people behind it didn't even bother knowing anything about it. At best they might have watched the movie in theaters when it came out. They'd have to know who the comedian is to do that. All these faggots know is some blue check mark on twitter told them that people that like Rorschach are losers and therefore those people need to be slandered. If you ask basic questions like what ethnicity or religion is his best friend (jewish) or what race is the psychologist that starts being influenced by his reasoning (black) or what caused him to go from a plucky superhero to a nihilist they wouldn't even know despite it being as obvious as asking a fan of TNG who Data's best friend is or why the bar is called ten-forward.

You have to remember just how ignorant these liberals truely are, like these people don't even realize most christians in the US don't give a fuck about the pope or his teachings. they genuinely don't even know theres a difference between protestants and catholics. One blue checkmark awhile back said they didn't realize what the dad in 7th heaven did and assumed the jokes about him being a molester was because he's a priest, which is only slightly more absurd than thinking The Jeffersons on the jeffersons are related to Thomas Jefferson or that thats what the shows about.

Its just hilarious in general how they have this weird mix of thinking they're the first generation of liberals and everyone in the past was a bigot combined with also thinking the demographics and issues of today were also present in the entire history of civilization. Like if you asked them what percentage of london was non-white in any year in the 19th or 20th centuries they'd immediately assume it was a majority non-white and even if you showed them otherwise they'd just assume the stats are lying.

If you talked about the comedian from Watchmen they'd assume you're talking about an in-universe joker knockoff or that a comedian was cast in a role in the movie. Thats the big reason why stuff like Captain Metrolis and Hooded Justice's relationship suddenly doesn't make sense and why they just go "LOL ITS JUST A TV SHOW" when you bring up the absurd amount of retcons needed to make it make sense. Its just the typical Kikery you see in everything else liberals put out, like the pronouns in starfield. its absurd to care but also if you don't care you're racist. With jews everythings a Mortons Fork. They're the type of people that get angry about being invited to your wedding but get even more angry if you don't invite them to your wedding

Honestly though fuck Alan Moore, if he really cares more about how they raped his creations more than usual he should actually bother saying something.

The left think Veidt did nothing wrong and fully justified in murdering millions to bring about a "liberal utopia" where the chuds and white people in particular, are being owned 24-7 by minorities, Jews, and wealthy white liberal types who never have to face the consequences of their policies thanks to their wealth and power.

Rorschach opposed Viedt and had to be straight up MURDERED (something that Geoff Johns EXPLICITLY calls out in Doomsday Clock as proof Manhattan was never a "good person") to keep him silent and even then, his diary is out there at the end of the series waiting to be found and bring down the house of cards. Which is what happened in Doomsday Clock, as Veidt (still doing a victory lap) got sloppy in killing the newspaper staffer who had the diary in their hands at the end of the comic, framed an innocent man for said murder, only to fail to destroy the diary and having the poor dude who's life Veidt ruined via framing him, have his lawyers clear his name by way of validiating/confirming the contents of the diary and bringing down Veidt's house of cards.

Needless to say, the left didn't like that so for the TV show, Rorchach is NEVER fucking vindicated, his diary becomes the equivalent of the Turner Diaries, and his fans are explicitly compared to the Klu Klux Klan as far as openly stating that the KKK rebranded themselves with Rorschach's mask as their new uniform.

Also, the Cult of Rorschach weren't portrayed as incels and even had women members (Trixie from Deadwood even seduces Looking Glass to try and recruit him).
 
Hell even Tom King, who really flip flops between an OK writer and a complete and utter moron understood watchmen and rorschach....somewhat better when he wrote the rorschach limited series. I say somewhat cause that series is still heavily flawed but not as bad the tv show that turned an iconic DC character into a rebranding for the fucking Klan and retconned the he'll out of the original to where it feels like it was fan fiction that got given a budget and approval by the company.
