It's probably because of all the characters we've met so far who aren't openly antagonists, Stolas's motivations are the hardest to understand. Guy seems to want for nothing, has power both physical and (apparently) political, had a wife, has a kid he was at least mostly close to while she was growing up, has all the money he could want, Christ the guy has a magic book that lets him dick around with the cosmos on a whim. Ignoring the morality of the situation, throwing away his home life and reputation just to whore around with some dude he became infatuated with just seems irrational. Especially since he's clearly unhappy with the outcome.

Yes, we still don't know if his wife had it coming or not. We also don't know the circumstances he and Blitzo met under, so we don't know yet if Blitzo really is just some random trashy guy he picked up or if he had some reason to believe there was more to it than that at the start. But based on what we know currently it doesn't make him look too good. I'm sure the show will have some tragic story to explain why Stolas is the way he is, but to be honest I'd prefer it more if he really did just act selfishly and now he needs to reign it in. Not everyone needs some terrible background to explain away all of their negatives, and I'm honestly fine with the character as is.

I thought there were enough hints in episode 2 to show why he was unhappy with his life, at least in terms of love. That flashback to when his daughter was a kid didn’t exactly scream “loving wife and husband”.

Side note, but I always thought Moxie was the last person to join the business, like maybe Millie got Blitzo to hire him or something, but it looks like it was the other way around going off those pictures. Moxie was the first hire.

She's worse than Stolas because while it's understandable she wants to kill him, she'd leave her own daughter without a father who still loves him and would be devastated by it. That alone makes her the worst of the worst.

She was also less upset about being cheated on and more that she was being cheated on with an Imp.

She did cross the line into actually trying to kill him only recently, post-cheating though. Its also possible she's still under the impression her daughter hates him, though I honestly consider that unlikely.

This is just an aside but the latest episode seems to confirm they're not living together anymore, which indicates the assassination plot was sufficient grounds for them to split up at the very least.

The only trouble with this is that Stolas himself still seems to feel guilty over the whole thing, which to me implies there's at least some ambiguity as to whether or not he was justified in cheating on her. He could just be guilty over how messy it was and I'm interpreting it wrong but, I dunno.

No you see, clearly the show where demons are sent to hell because of a christian moral system and feel guilt according to a christian moral system shouldn't be judged according to it. To me that's just a lame excuse to pretend your characters are these sad but wholesome romantic creatures when they really aren't good people. I mean I'm fine with that, but it's just that you're not actually supossed to believe that what they do is right and HB tries a bit too much to convince you they are.

Either way cheating is pretty disgusting, no matter if he was unhappy or not, especially when there's a family in the line. But that also could be fine, the issue is that the show tries really hard to justify that it's a good thing. Maybe because he's gay, most likely because the show can't handle something like that and needs to keep moving along at a decent pace. I'd be fine too if Stolas was really just an asshole, they didn't have much problems doing the same with Angel even if they did try to make some sad pimp backstory.

Doesn't change my point though, they still operate according to a moral framework close enough to the christian one, they aren't going full Slaanesh or something. Although I did forget that the demon sent to hell thing is a Hazbin thing so thank you.
 
Finally got around to watching the latest, and I have to say... it's probably the best so far. Surprisingly emotional while still being hilarious. Animation seems smooth throughout. Great voice acting. Dammit I want to love a woman like Moxxie loves Millie.

Now that said, here's what I don't get. And maybe there's a reason, but if so it hasn't been made clear yet.

What the hell does Stolas see in Blitzo? I mean, I like Blitzo as a character. Nothing against him. But Stolas blew up his whole life over Blitzo. Blitzo isn't treated as being super hot in universe or something like that, and he treats Stolas like shit. Stolas is royalty and could have pretty much whoever he wants, so... why?

I’m going to assume the initial attraction was Blitzo being the “bad boy rebel” that people who grew up in a sheltered and rigid environment get attracted to. And I’m assuming somewhere between that thrill of new and exciting a d now he started getting actual feelings. As for what he sees in Blitzo as a partner now…maybe that’s part of what will be addressed in Part 2.

Exactly that. He isn't hot, he's an imp, and he leads IMP. Maybe he's well endowed. Maybe the bird has a degradation fetish. I bet it's a combination of all of those really, dating someone who is below you in every way. I think that's pretty funny as unintentional social commentary.

Also, to be fair, it’s not like anyone else is much better than Blitzo. It being Hell and all.
 
Pretty meh for me, the episode I think has that thing where because it's part 1 most of it is just set up for Part 2. Good animation and an ok musical number (I honestly don't blame Fizzarolli and Asmodeus for making fun of Moxxie's song, that shit needed better lyrics man), I didn't like how Verosika felt shoe horn into the episode, even in the musical number her participation was little and I would have also liked to have more scene of Stolas and Blitz in their own dating shenanigans before going to the drama, speaking of which:

I will have to agree with some of the posters here, not crazy about it. Like not in a OMG STOLAS IS SO BAD BLITZ WOULD NEVER HANG OUT WITH HIM I'M GONNA CRY but more like "Do we really need all this relationship drama in a show where all the characters are demons/sinners in hell?" I mean, it could work but for me having an all emotional moment here to then next season go back to your typical swears, sex, swears seems pretty tone deaf to me.

But let's see how they do it on part 2.

As some have said, it could be that he sees a hot shot rebel without a caused in him, what with the whole running amock on the living world while stolas needs to abide by a bunch of rules and expectations. He sees in blitz the wild reckless hotshot Stolas WISHES he could be but can't because of his obligations as a husband and a father.

Funny thing he mentioned octavia being "at her mothers" in the latest ep, which makes me wonder if he and Stella got a divorce or at least a separation off screen, then again it could be refereeing to some country house or vacation home they have too.
