Yes. It hurt. I went to a doctor. The doctor got his trainee doctor to drain it. They drained it with a scalpel and gave me antibiotics.

The mentoring doctor told the student to just drain all the hair follicles and clean it up. The doctor said it would be easy so he doesnt need to supervise so he was gonna go do paperwork and leave the student to it. The student must have at one point heard the phrase "the local anesthetic is the most painful part of the procedure". Instead of interpreting that as "the injection hurts a tiny amount but numbs everything so it's the most painful part", they interpreted it as "it's more painful than a scalpel cutting flesh" so they decided to not inject local anesthetic and just start slicing. That hurt...
What’s the difference between a carbuncle and a boil? I have an extremely small bump on my neck right now. It had three heads but overall the lump is really tiny - think an Australian 5 cent coin. I’m pretty sure it’s already getting smaller.

A carbuncle is a group of boils that affect multiple hair follicles while a boil is just a almost a big zit caused by infection.

Are talking about the gemstone or a boil?
Yes to both. Got a penicillin resistant staph infection from a horrifically unclean shower/latrine at a forward operating base in the Middle East. Then developed a equally horrific allergic reaction to the sulfur base antibiotics where the skin inside my mouth blistered and peeled. Superbugs are seriously bad and difficult to control.

My grandmother used this word improperly for all sorts of things and the sight of it here caused me to laugh uproariously. Sorry not to have had any carbuncles lmfao or boils, you know I'd share HD pics cause ahhh love u
I am quite partial to the word bubo, its the origin of the name for the bubonic plague.

Yeah, mine looked pretty scary.

That hurt quite a lot. I should have stopped them sooner but they acted like this was normal and I didn't want to look like a baby. I kept tensing up each time they cut so they asked me why I kept doing that. I told them because it fucking hurts. They then gave me some local anesthetic and the rest of the procedure was fine.

That's my carbuncle story. I hope you like it
